Americanoun    America is the country we live in. It

has 50 states. California is one of them.American – person or thing from the United

States

American Indiansnoun    A group of people who were native to

America.

BritainA Kingdom divided into England, Scotland,

Wales and Northern Ireland – also called Great Britain

British – people or things from Britain

Colonynoun    a town set up by people who came

from another countryColonies – more than one colonyColonist – person who sets up a new town in

different countryColonial – from the colonies, colonists, or of

that time

Country noun    the land where a group of people are

united under a single governmentCountries – more than one countryCountry can also mean a place with lots of

farms

Europenoun    This continent is the home of France,

England, Germany, and Holland, Finland, and Sweden.

European – people and things from Europe

forestsnoun    A place where many trees grow;

woods

merchantsnoun    people who own a store and buy, sell,

or trade things with people who need them.Merchandise – things that merchants sell

Middle Coloniesnoun    The name given to the English

colonies of Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania before the American Revolution

Natural Resourcesnoun    things that occur naturally;

water,land, trees, plants, animals... that we use to live

New England noun    The colonies in the north: New

Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

plantationsnoun    large farms that used slave labor for

its crops

productsnoun    things made and sold that people

need or want

prosperverb    Grow stronger, gain wealth, to be

successful

Revolutionnoun    to try to change the government that

is controlling you and set up a new government

Revolutionary – process of changing to become better

shipbuildersnoun    A person who builds ships as a

business.  

slavesnoun    A person who is owned by someone.  

Southern Coloniesnoun    The colonies that were most southern:

Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland

wildlifenoun    wild animals living in their natural

environment.
