Alphabet Photography1st and 2nd Semester Ongoing Project

Your Task:  Look for LETTERS A-Z in your surroundings!   

-They can come from nature, or man made materials.

-You are NOT permitted to photograph ACTUAL letters

Ex. “S” from machine made metal hook

Must be “found” letters

You need to photograph "things" in a way that makes them look like a letter.          

NO!!

X YES!

The photos can be….

Color or black & white. Can be taken in portrait (vertical) or

landscape (horizontal) orientation.   

Don’t be too obvious…search between the lines

Don’t always take the first idea! Too easy!

Now…you’re challenging yourself!

You can create the letter too! Objects (manmade or natural)

Don’t forget your techniques & design strategies. Rule of thirds Depth of field Principles of Design Elements of Art! Background Framing

Obvious or the small details

Look in odd places…be original

Good to have options >1

Eventually (by 2nd Semester)… You will have the taken 26 photos –

one for each letter

Always have your final product in mind

How will they look together – UNITY!

1st Semester Letter Due Dates:-Will be taking for warm ups for remainder of semester.

          A: Friday, 11/20           B: Tuesday, 11/24           C: Monday, 11/30           D: Tuesday, 12/1           E: Thursday, 12/3           F: Friday, 12/4           G:  Monday, 12/7           H: Tuesday, 12/8E for Effort!

Let’s start – You have 10 minutes

Find or create the letter “A” for today’s warm up.

If you find one A….find another! If you see another letter – Take the

photo and save it. Make a folder on your google

drive for “alphabet”. Don’t just save on your desktop or your website. Have original files.

Create a page on your website called, “Alphabet”

If you’re unhappy with it….take one outside of school & replace it!

Grading Requirements – Each letter worth 5 points1 point: Must be a “found” letter

from manmade or natural/organic material

1 point: You need to photograph "things" in a way that makes them look like a letter.    

1 point: Composition is shot in interesting and unique way. Not too obvious.

1 point: Stayed focused during warm up and did not distract others or goof around.

1 point: Added to your web portfolio.
