and support to live self-determined lives. —Vision of the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities

MissionThe mission of the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, is to provide training, technical assistance, research, systems change, and dissemination activities focused on supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to:

• Makeinformedchoicesanddecisionsabouttheirlives.

• Receivesupportandservicesthatarebasedonindividualgoalsandoutcomes.

• Achievefullinclusionandparticipateinsociety,inanindividualizedmanner,consistent with the unique strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, and capabilitiesofeachindividual.

in October 2005 through a University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education,

Research,andServicegrantawardfromtheAdministrationonDevelopmentalDisabilities.

Since 1963, University Centers for Excellence in DevelopmentalDisabilitiesEducation,Research,

andService(UCEDD)havebeenworkingto accomplish a shared vision that foresees anationinwhichallAmericans,including

Americanswithdisabilities,participatefullyintheircommunities.

effective 5 year plan in collaboration withaConsumerAdvisoryCommitteeandtheDDActAgencies.

Goal 2: To improve access to effective educational supports within inclusive placements for individuals with developmentaldisabilities.

Goal 3: To expand the availability and choice of employment opportunities for individuals with developmentaldisabilities.

Goal 4: To increase meaningful participation in community activities, services, and supports, for individuals with developmentaldisabilities.

Goal 5: To improve access and quality of health care for individuals with developmentaldisabilities.

Goal 6: Provide interdisciplinary training experiences that prepare professionals for achieving the purposeoftheDDAct.

The Florida Center for Inclusive Communities recognizes that:1.Allindividualswithdevelopmentaldisabilitieshavetherighttobeincludedinand

participate in the full range of community activities as valued and contributing membersofsociety.

2.Allindividualswithdevelopmentaldisabilities,regardlessoftheirlevelofability,are capable of self determination, independence, and productivity with ongoing individualizedsupportsandservices.

3.Allindividualswithdevelopmentaldisabilitiesandtheirfamilieshavecapacities,capabilities,andpersonalgoalsthatwillberecognized,supported,andencouragedinanindividualisticmanner.

4.Allindividualswithdevelopmentaldisabilitiesandtheirfamiliesareactivelyinvolvedin,andaretheprimarydecisionmakersregarding,servicesandsupporttheyreceive.

5.Allindividualswithdevelopmentaldisabilitiesandtheirfamiliesshouldbeprovidedwith services, supports, and assistance in a culturally and linguistically competent mannerthatrespectshumandignity.
