Defining Entrepreneurship

• An entrepreneur is a promoter; a person who organizes & operates a business taking on greater risk in order to do so. (Oxford Am Dic. 2001)

• Innovation and entrepreneurship can come from anywhere in the Extension organization

Why Entrepreneurship?

• Extension isn’t free

• The climate of accountability is at all levels—county, state, and federal gov’t, and foundations & donors

• Issues based programming requires a variety of approaches, including funding solutions

• Expectation for resource generation throughout the organization
