The near future
Buildings of the future must connect the various pieces in an integrated, dynamic andfunctional way. This vision is a building that seamlessly fulfills its mission whilemitigating environmental impact.

When, Who & Where
While smart buildings systems can often sense when there are people in a room, theycompletely ignore who is in a room, where precisely they are located and where theyare going.

Some examples
Keep lights and climate control on based on preferences of each person.
Customize the content of wall displays.
Predict elevator usage.
Enable office workers to find each other.
Support emergency response teams needing to know the occupancy of areas.
Limit access to some parts of a building to those authorized to be there.

Conclusions
The opportunity for indoor location is beyond just the obvious, “Hey, I’m giving youpromotions” It is going to be an enabling technology for applications and servicesthat we couldn’t even conceive, in the same vein as GPS. Nobody predicted Uberwhen GPS first came out. Indoor location is going to be just as transformational.
