In the realm of software we are used to prototypes and testing (or are we?). In the world of physical production things are (were?) not that easy. Lags increase, costs increase, yet headaches and WTFs per minute decrease - but just because they are spread in a longer period. 3D printing has dramatically lowered both lags and costs, it's slowly changing the way we think about things and will surely shape an important part of our future in oh so many fields.
