Jeffrey isn't a little boy with cancer anymore. He's a teen who's in remission, but life still feels fragile.

The after-effects of treatment have left Jeffrey with an inability to be a great student or to walk

without limping.

In the story he meets a boy with a similar condition and a girl he falls in love with.

Three Main Characters

JefferyJeffery is in 8th grade and lives in New Jersey. Jeffery and Tad met in fourth grade when they found out they both had cancer.

TadTad is another cancer survivor who has been affected more than Jeffery. Tad has a walking problem that is so bad he's handicapped. He can change his handicap if he exercises more.

Lindsey Lindsey is a California girl, who is popular and pretty. Jeffery doesn’t know it yet, but Lindsey likes Jeffery and soon finds out how much.

Jeffery has it all, the girl, the best friend, but of course not everything is perfect…

His older brother, Steven, lost it and took off to Africa to be in a drumming circle to find himself.

Jeffery is failing math so Tad makes a deal with him…

Tad is going to help Jeffery with math as long as Jeffery helps Tad exercise so he can walk on the

stage for graduation.

What makes it worse is now that there is a test for the whole eighth grade that you must pass to go to

High school.

Lindsey, his girlfriend, decides it would be best to stay distant until Jeffery takes the math test so he

won’t be distracted.

Because Jeffery had cancer it affects his math skills, but the teachers are still making him take

the test so…

Tad and Lindsey got together for the rest of the year behind Jeffery's back and made a plan to march out of school on the day of the test so that the teachers

would be forced to stop the testing.

It was successful

Tad gets diagnosed again with cancer out of the blue and it shocks everyone.

Jeffery comes up with a great idea to host a bike race fundraiser for Tad so that he can have enough

money to get all the treatment he needs.

Before Tad goes into treatment on Saturday he gives a gift to Jeffery and says only to open it on

the day of the bike race.

Now Jeffery is in a tough situation because Tad may not make it and that would destroy Jeffery.

The day of the race

Jeffery opens the gift and its an iPod. There's a note that says press play right at the start.

Jeffery pressed play on the iPod only to hear the worst songs in history that they used to make

fun of.

Jeffery started the race and is listening to the horrible music. It makes Jeffery think about all

the memories with Tad that were really fun.

Jeffery does an extra ride around the track so that he can earn more money for Tad.

While Jeffery is riding his bike he gets a really bad cramp so he figured out he was hungry. He

decides to buy a hotdog so he can rest.

Before Jeffery finishes the race he looks to where everyone should be and no ones there…

Then he sees his moms car appear and next to it is Lindsey and his mother.

Jeffery sees his mom crying and he knows something is wrong with Tad.

Jeffery is really upset because his mom told him what had happened.

Tad died around the time that Jeffery was eating his hotdog. He did not know until he finished the

race which made it even harder.

Jeffery is sad because he never got to say goodbye to his best friend.

Now that the race is over Jeffery is a little happier because he found out that him and Lindsey can

go out again because the testing is over.

Jeffery goes to see Tad’s grave everyday to talk to him and to tell him how Tad’s family is doing.

He also goes to Tad’s house at least once a week to help out his family.

Spend every moment you have with those that you care about. You never know when it will be your last.
