Equip 2020
• FAA and aviation industry leaders have been participating in
an Equip 2020 working group to equip aircraft with new
NextGen avionics technology by the 1/1/2020 deadline.
• Accomplishments include:
─ Publishing of the Final Rule Technical Amendment to change the ADS-B
Out TSO from “meet requirements” to “meet performance requirements”.
─ ADS-B out GPS receiver transition period exemption process
─ AC 90-114A update to address avionics installation guidance for
experimental and Light Sport aircraft and service availability prediction
tool (SAPT) guidance
─ Development of an equipage tracking database to help track equipage
trends
─ Commitment from the aircraft certification services to prioritize ADS-B
system certifications
─ Certification and installation policy changes to streamline processes

ADS-B Out Installation Approval Policy Memo
• Policy Memo signed on March 2, 2016
• Outlines the criteria for installing ADS-B Out
systems on aircraft not covered under the initial
approval (non-AML aircraft).
• Provides guidance for documenting all ADS-B Out
installations using Form 337.
• Tech Paper under development to further clarify
key areas of the Policy Memo.
− Effects of ADS-B Out installation on RVSM approved
aircraft
− Modification of AFMS/RFMS

ADS-B Performance Monitor (APM)
• APM Functions & Capabilities:
– Tracks ADS-B mandate equipage
– Avionics & Repair Station (RS) Registry
• Associates ADS-B avionics equipage (transmitter/GPS
make/model) to each aircraft
• Associates installation shop (RS ID) to each aircraft
– Avionics Trend Analysis Tool
• Provides historical performance data for all aircraft
• Enables avionics performance trending at aircraft &
component make/model level
