ABSA L’Atelier Art Competition Regional Finalists across the country

The ABSA L’A TThe ABSA L’Atelier is South Africa’s most prestigious art competition. It rewards the brave, young artists between the ages of 21

and 35 with the opportunity to develop their talents abroad. As a look through the previous list of winners will testify, when

courage and this kind of opportunity come together, greatness is sure to follow suit.

Eleven prizes are awarded. The overall winner receives R110 000.00 in total from Absa as well as a return ticket to Paris, France.

The prize money must be used for the time of study, of at least three months but not more than six months, in the studio

apartment purchased for this purpose at the Cité international des Arts.

Four additional merit prizes of R25 000.00 will be awarded. The top ten finalists will each receive R2000.00. The Alliance

Francaise, the French Institute and the French Embassy are sponsoring the Gerard Sekoto Award for the most promising artist

with an income of less than R60 000.00 per annum.

This competition is hosted annually, with regional exhibitions of finalists being held in Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Durban,
