Counselling individuals and couples living with dementia

Ourfreetherapyservicesprovideasafespacetohelpyoutalk,inaconfidentialandnon-judgementalway,aboutanyissuesincludingmemoryproblems,dementiadiagnosis,andtheeffectsofthediagnosis.

Aninitialconsultationwillbeofferedwithoneofourseniorcounsellors,whichwilllastapproximately90minutes.Then,ifappropriate,youwillbeallocatedaseriesofweeklytherapysessionsof50minuteseach.

Wealsoofferaservicecalled‘Livingwithdementia’whichisforcouples,whereonepartnerhasdementia,whichgivestheopportunitytotalk,andaimstoimprovecommunication,andpromoteengagementwitheverydayactivities.

Theservicesarefreeforpeopleover55livinginCamden,andhomevisitsareavailableforhouseboundpeople.

Ourcounsellorsarefullytrainedandvetted,andtheserviceisanorganisationalmemberoftheBritishAssociationforCounsellingandPsychotherapy.

Dementia Befriending Service

AgeUKCamdenDementiaBefriendingServicecanhelppeoplelivingwithdementiawhomayfeellonely,orisolated.

Volunteerbefrienderscan,dependingonwhatthepersonmightliketodo:

• Visitpeopleintheirhomesregularly

• Supportcurrentandnewinterestsbothathomeandinthelocalcommunity

• Somepeoplemayliketovisitamuseumorgoforawalk;othersmayenjoyacupofteaandachat.

• Giveinformationonotherservicesasneeded

Priorityisgiventothosewhohavenosupportfromotherservices,familyorfriends.

Allbefriendersareselected,trainedandfullysupportedbyAgeUKCamdenstaff.

Thedementiaadviserservicegivespeopleaffectedbydementiaapointofcontactforinformation,advice,supportandhelpaboutlocalservices.

• Peoplecanbevisitedintheirownhometohelpdecidewhatsupportmightbeofbenefit.

• Adviceandhelpcaninclude:wheretofindsocialactivities,sourcesoflegalandfinancialadviceordiscussingideasofhowtocopewithmemorydifficulties

• Findservicessopeopleaffectedbydementiacanliveaswellaspossible.

• IfneededpeoplecanbematchedtoaVolunteerDementiaAdvisertohelpwithmorecomplexmatters.

Dementia Day Services

OurtwoResourceCentres,inKingsCrossandHampstead,provideastimulatingprogrammeofactivitiesandeventsinasafeandfriendlyenvironment.Theycaterforarangeofpeoplelivingwithdementia,fromthemostactivetothoselessable.Freshlycookedlunchesandrefreshmentsarealsoonoffer.

Therearevariousactivitiesandeventsthatmayincludegardening;artsandcrafts;exercise;shoppingtrips;outings;dancing;music;singing;reminiscenceandmassage.

• Peoplewhoreceivepersonalbudgetsfortheircarefromthelocalauthoritywillpayachargebasedontheirlevelofneed.

• Self-funderscandiscusstheircircumstanceswiththecentremanager.

• Thereisaseparatechargeforlunch.

• Giveinformationonotherservicesasneeded
