BLUE&MEisdesigned to support the future installation of additionalservices.TheBLUE&ME Hands-Free Communication packagefeatures integrated voice recognition, steering wheel con-trolsandamultifunctionelectronicdisplaythatallowsyou to use your Bluetooth wireless technology enabledmobilephonewithouthavingtotakeyoureyesofftheroad. You can even keep your phone in a pocket or a bag.You are not required to train the voice recognition systemto recognize your voice. The system is speaker indepen-dent and performs equally well for different users.With this system, you can also play your favorite musicstoredonaUSBstickor iPodandselect tracksandplaybackmodeswithbothvoicecommandsorbuttonson the steering wheel.This device complies withPart 15 of the FCCrulessubject to the following two conditions:1. This device must accept all interference received,includinginterferencethatmaycauseundesiredop-erationThe BLUE&ME Hands-Free CommunicationPackageThe basic characteristic of this hands-free package isvoicerecognitionwithBluetoothwirelesstechnology.BLUE&ME Users Manual 5Withthissystemyoucanmakeandreceivecallssafelyand securely using either voice commands or buttons onthe steering wheel, under any driving condition, withouthaving to take your eyes off the road or removing yourhandsfromthesteeringwheel, asrequiredbycurrentlegal regulations.Bluetooth wireless technology enables wireless connec-tionbetweenyour mobile phone andthe hands-freepackage installed on your car.Tousethehands-freepackage, youneedaBluetoothwireless technology enabled mobile phone. This hands-free package gives you the possibility of interactingvocallywithyourmobilephonewhiledriving, evenifyour mobile device does not feature this capability. Youcan also interact with your mobile phone manually andvisually using the steering wheel controls and the instru-ment panel multifunction display.ForfurtherdetailsonthemobilephonessupportedbyBLUE&ME, refer toBLUE&ME SUPPORTED MO-BILE PHONES.To get started with BLUE&ME Hands-Free Communi-cationwithvoicerecognition, youhavetosimplypairyour Bluetooth wireless technology enabled mobilephone with the system.Pairingisanoperationthat hastobeperformedonlyonce.NOTE:During the mobile phone pairing procedure,BLUE&MEattempts todetect aphoneequippedwith Bluetooth wireless technology within range andthen establishes the connection using a Personal Iden-tification Number (PIN).6 BLUE&ME Users ManualOnceyourphoneispaired, youhavetheoptiontotransfer your mobile phone contacts to the hands-freepackage, tomakeaphonecall either byusingthecontacts list or directly pronouncing the phone num-ber, to answer a call, and also answer a secondincoming phone call.To interact with BLUE&MEyou can use eitherbuttons onthe steeringwheel or voice commands.With voice recognition, you can perform system func-tions by speaking voice commands, also identified askeywords. When the system recognizes a keyword,it will respond with the appropriate action. Voicerecognitionis aneasyandconvenient wayto useBLUE&ME.All the system functions are available within theBLUE&ME Main Menu. When you are travelling, youcaninteract withBLUE&MEusingbuttons onthesteering wheel or voice commands relevant only tophone functions (LAST CALLS and PHONEBOOK) andthe media player. To activate settings when travelling youcan only use voice commands.The hands-free package enables the following operations:Contactcallingbyvoiceyoucancall acontactinyour mobile phone phonebook using your voice. Youcan also call a contact in your phonebook by scanningthrough the entries on the multifunction display.(Tousethisoptionyouhavetotransferyourmobilephone contacts to the hands-free package phonebook).Digit dialing by voice you can dial a phone numberby pressing the Windows icon button (VR button) onthe steering wheel and speaking the digits to be dialed.Tocall a SMStext sender call the last SMStextsender directly or the sender of an SMS messagereceived and stored in the BLUE&ME inbox.BLUE&ME Users Manual 7To answer a call you can answer an incoming call bypressing the Phone/MENUbutton on the steeringwheel.Conferencecall you can call another contact whileyou are engaged in a phone conversation (ConferenceCalling is only supportedby a compatible mobilephone).Call waiting while engaged in a phone conversation,you can receive notification of another incomingphone call, answer the other incoming phone call, andswitch between two ongoing phone conversations.(Call waiting is only supported by a compatible mobilephone.)Refusing an incoming call or ending a call you canrefuse an incoming call or end a current call bypressingthePhoneHang-upbuttononthesteeringwheel.Withyourmobilephoneinthevehicleandthepairingprocedurecomplete, connect toyour mobilephonetoBLUE&ME and you can make phone calls by speakingkeywords or pressingbuttons onthe steeringwheel.When using the hands-free phone, the audio output of aphone conversation is heard through your cars speakers.Message ReaderThe BLUE&MEmessage reader enables automaticreading, through the car sound system, of the SMS textsyou receive on your Bluetooth wireless technologyenabled mobile phone that are received when the phoneis pairedandconnectedtoBLUE&MEsystem. Themessage reader does not provide access to messages thatwere received before you entered the car and connectedwiththeBLUE&MEsystem. Onlyasubsetofabbre-viations and emoticons are supported by theBLUE&ME system.8 BLUE&ME Users ManualNOTE: Not all mobilephones support theSMStextmessage reader function or automatic phonebook trans-fer via Bluetooth. Consult www.fiatusa.com for furtherinformation on the list of compatible mobile phones.Messagereader functionsaremanagedbythecontrolbuttonsonthesteeringwheel orbytheBLUE&MEvoice commands.The BLUE&ME message reader enables the followingoperations:To display on the instrument panel multifunctiondisplay a visual notification signal indicating that youhavereceivedanewSMStext onyour Bluetoothwireless technology enabled mobile phone, with send-ers number/name; BLUE&ME will also askwhethertoreadyouthemessagethat hasbeenre-ceived.Tomanage the list of SMStexts receivedonyourBLUE&ME paired mobile phone.NOTE: Onlymessages that were receivedwhile themobilephonewas connectedtoBLUE&MEwill belisted.Toreadthemessagesreceivedandstored. Messagescan be read multiple times.TocalltheSMStextsenderusingthebuttonsonthesteering wheel or voice commands.To delete individual messages or the entire inbox usingthe buttons on the steering wheel or voice commands.NOTE: Messages are to only be deleted by theBLUE&ME system and not by your mobile phone.BLUE&ME Users Manual 9TheBLUE&MEsystemcanalsorecognizeandreadabbreviations, if any (e.g., ILUVU will be read I loveyou) and can interpret most common emoticons (e.g., :-)will be read Smile), used today to write SMS texts.Media PlayerWith the BLUE&MEmedia player you can play, via thecar sound system, digital audio files stored on a USB stickor iPod by simply connecting it to the USB port locatedin the glove box of the car.Withthisfeature, youcanplayyourfavoritepersonalmusic collections while you drive.iPod player - refer to MEDIA PLAYER FUNCTIONS.Themediaplayer featureallows thefollowingopera-tions:Digital audio playback - you can play all your digitalaudio files (.mp3, .wma, .wav, .aac) or play a custom-ized playlist (.m3u or .wpl format).Audiofileselectionbycategory- youcanplayallaudio files of a certain category, e.g., album, artist orgenre.NOTE: Each audio file category must be tagged beforeconnecting to the BLUE&ME system. If no category istagged, the BLUE&ME system will index the song bythe song title.Playback options - while playing tracks you can selectthe following options: Play, Stop, Next track, Previoustrack, Shuffle and Repeat.10 BLUE&ME Users ManualNOTE:Themediaplayerdoesnotsupportaudiofilescom-pressedwithotherformatsandDRM(Digital RightManagement) protectedaudio files. Non-supportedaudio files that may be present on the USB device willbe ignored.To use the media player, you have to simply connect(directlyorbyanextensionlead)yourUSBstickoriPodtothecarUSBport. WhentheignitionkeyisturnedtoON, BLUE&MEwillstartbuildingyourmedia library. At the end of this operation you can surfthewholelibraryandscroll itscategoriesasdesiredusing the buttons on the steering wheel or voicecommands. BLUE&MEwill then play your selectionvia the car sound system.Road SafetyWARNING! Operatingcertainpartsofthissystemwhiledriv-ing can distract your attention away from the road,andpossiblycauseanaccident or other seriousconsequences; for this reason certain functions aredisabled by the BLUE&ME system until drivingconditionsaresecureand, ifrequired, onlywhenthe car is stopped. ReadandFollowInstructions: beforeusingyoursystem, read and follow all instructions and safetyinformation provided in this end user manual(Users Manual). Donotchangesystemsettingsorenterdatanon-verbally (using your hands) while driving. Stop thecarinasafeandlegalmannerbeforeattemptingthese operations. This is important, since whilesettinguporchangingsomefunctionsyoumightberequiredtodistract yourattentionawayfromthe road and remove your hands from the wheel.General Operation(Continued)WARNING! (Continued) VoiceCommandControl: somefunctions withinthe system may be accomplished using only voicecommands. Usingvoicecommandswhiledrivingallows you to operate the system without removingyour hands from the wheel. Prolonged Views of Screen: do not access anyfunction requiring a prolonged view of the screenwhile you are driving. Pull over in a safe and legalmannerbeforeattemptingtoaccessafunctionofthe systemrequiring prolonged attention. Evenoccasional short scans to the screen may be hazard-ous if your attention has been diverted away fromyour driving task at a critical time.(Continued)12 BLUE&ME Users ManualWARNING! (Continued) Volume Setting: donot raise the volume exces-sively. Keepthevolumeatalevelwhereyoucanstill hear outside traffic andemergency signalswhile driving. Driving while unable to hear thesesounds could cause an accident. UseofSpeechRecognitionFunctions: speechrec-ognition software is inherently a statistical processwhich is subject to errors. It is your responsibilitytomonitor anyspeechrecognitionfunctions in-cluded in the system and address any errors. Distraction Hazard: many features may requiremanual (non-verbal) setup. Attempting to performsuchset-upor entering data while driving canseriously distract your attention and could cause anaccident or other seriousconsequences. If this operation isnot allowedimmediatelyafter pairingfor the firsttime, the BLUE&ME system will prompt you for thephonebook each time you connect to the system. Forphones containing a SIM card, the phonebook on theSIM card will be downloaded if it is allowed. See yourphones Operating Manual for further details.20 BLUE&ME Users ManualBLUE&ME HANDS-FREE COMMUNICATIONPACKAGE QUICK REFERENCE GUIDETo quickly get started with using the BLUE&MEHands-Free Communication Package with voice recogni-tion and Bluetooth wireless technology:Prepare your mobile phone phonebookTurn the ignition key to ONTry out the voice commandsPair your mobile phoneMake a phone callInstructions for each of the above functions are given inthe following paragraphs.Prepare Your Mobile Phone PhonebookBefore creating a pairing relationship between your mo-bilephoneandBLUE&MEHands-FreeCommunica-tion, you should make sure that you have contact entriesinyourmobilephonephonebooksothat youcanusethem with the hands-free phone.If your phonebook is empty, quickly create several newentries for frequently dialed phone numbers. For furtherdetails, consult your mobile phone owners manual.To properly enter contacts in your mobile phone phone-book, refer to SETTING FUNCTIONS - PAIRING YOURMOBILE PHONE.BLUE&ME Users Manual 21Important NotesThephonebookcopiedtoBLUE&MEcanonlybeused when the corresponding mobile phone is pairedand connected.OnceamobilephoneispairedtotheBLUE&MEsystem, the phone will automatically connect/disconnect to the BLUE&ME system whenever theignition is turned to ON/OFF. All of the BLUE&MEfeaturesarefullyfunctional whenthephoneiscon-nected to BLUE&ME.NOTE: Some mobile phones may require you to accepttheBLUE&MEconnection, dependingonthemobilephone settings.EntriesstoredinSIMcardormobilephonememorycan be transferred to BLUE&MEwith differentprocedures, according to your mobile phone model.Try Out the Voice CommandsAt each stage of your dialogue with the system, you canalwaysusethevoicecommandHelp, togetdetailedindications about the voice commands available.To try out the Help function, proceed as follows:Press the steering wheel button.After BLUE&ME says Say a command and playsatoneindicatingthatvoicerecognitionisactive, sayHelp. BLUE&MEwill speak the list of voicecommands available.Afterthegeneralhelpmessageisfinished, saySet-tings and then Help. BLUE&ME will speak thelist of voice commands available for the Settings menu.Youcanthensayorpronounceoneoftheavailablecommands and proceed with the dialogue as you like.If youneedadditional help, pressthe steeringwheel button and say Help again.22 BLUE&ME Users ManualPair Your Mobile PhoneCAUTION!BLUE&MEHands-Free Communicationonlyal-lows this operation to be performed when the car isstopped.To pair your mobile phone, proceed as follows:Press the steeringwheel buttonandsaySet-tingsthen, attheendoftheBLUE&MEmessagesay Pairing.The system will show the phone pairing PIN numberonthemultifunctiondisplay. Forthenexttwosteps,consult your mobile phone owners manual aboutBluetooth pairing procedures for your phone.Onyourmobilephone, searchfordevicesequippedwithBluetoothwirelesstechnology(thesettingonyour mobile phone might be called Discover or NewDevice). In this list you will find BLUE&ME (nameidentifying the BLUE&MEsystemonyour car);select it.Whenpromptedbythemobilephone,enterthePINnumber shown on the instrument panel display usingyour mobile phone keypad. If pairing is successful, thesystemwill say Connecting andat the endthedisplaywillshowaconfirmationmessage, theIDofthe paired mobile phone.It is essential towait until yousee this confirmationmessage on the display. Pressing the /MENU buttonon the steering wheel or /ESC before the message isdisplayed may cancel the pairing process. If the pairingprocess fails, an error message will be displayed: in thisevent repeat the pairing procedure.BLUE&ME Users Manual 23Afterthefirst pairing, BLUE&MEwill sayWel-come immediately after connecting. This messagewillnolongerbeheardwhenyourphoneautomati-callyconnectstotheBLUE&MEsystemonfutureignition cycles.BLUE&ME will ask if you would like to copy yourpaired phone phonebook to BLUE&ME. It is recom-mended to copy it. To start copying the phonebook sayYes, otherwise say No.Making a Phone CallAssume that John Smith is one of the contacts stored inyour phonebook.To call John Smith, proceed as follows:Press the button and say Call John Smith.If the name is recognized, the system will display therecognized contacts information on the displayscreen.If there is just one phone number for John Smith in yourphonebook, the system will ask if you would like to callJohnSmith. Tostart thecall sayYes, otherwisesayNo.24 BLUE&ME Users ManualIf John Smith has several phone numbers, the system willaskwhichphonenumberyouwouldliketocall (e.g.,Call JohnSmith(at) Workor (at) Home?). Answerwith the type of required phone number (e.g., (at)Home).If John Smith has several phone numbers but the loca-tion(e.g.,thetypeofphonenumberlikework,home,etc.) is missing, the systemwill display the selectedcontact anda list of relatedphone numbers on theinstrumentclusterdisplay. Thehands-freecommunica-tion system will ask if you would like to call the phonenumber displayed. Torespondwithyes, sayYes,otherwise sayNo. Youcanalsoscroll throughthephone number list manually by pressing the buttons onthe back of the steering wheel until you find the requirednumber. Then, press the PRESET UP/OK button on therear of the steering wheel to start the call.To end the phone call, press thePHONEHANGUPbutton on the steering wheel.NOTE: If youencounter difficulties withanyof thevoice recognition operations, refer to HANDS-FREECOMMUNICATION PACKAGE - TROUBLESHOOT-ING.BLUE&ME Users Manual 25MESSAGE READER QUICK REFERENCE GUIDEIfyourBluetoothwirelesstechnologyenabledmobilephone supports the message reader function, at thearrival of a new SMS text, BLUE&ME plays a tone andit will ask if you would like to read it.Say Yes or press the /MENUbutton on thesteeringwheelorthePRESETUP/OKbuttonontherear of thesteeringwheel toreadthelast messagereceived.Say No or press the /ESC button on the steeringwheel; thesystemwillstorethemessagesoyoucanread it later.ForfurtherdetailsonthemessagereaderSMS,refertothe section MESSAGE READER FUNCTIONS.NOTE: If youencounter difficulties withanyof themessagereadersettings, refertoMESSAGEREADERTROUBLESHOOTING.26 BLUE&ME Users ManualMEDIA PLAYER QUICK REFERENCE GUIDETo start playing the digital audio files stored on your USBstick or iPod, proceed as follows:CopytrackstoyourUSBstick(BLUE&MErecog-nizes .wma, .mp3 .wav and aac formats for audio filesand .wpl and .m3u formats for playlists).USBstickswithout USBwire: just connect theUSBstick (directly or by an extension lead) to the USB portin the glove box of the car.USB sticks with USB wire: use the wire to connect theUSB stick to the USB port on the car.Turn the ignition key to ON.
