Algebra uses letters like x or y or other symbols in place of unknown values.

Algebraic Equations

x – 35 = 56k2 + 3

An equation is a mathematical statement that two expressions are equal.

WHAT YOU DO TO ONE SIDE, YOU DO TO THE OTHER.

I learned:

B- BEDMAS

Addition Subtraction

Division Multiplication

Brackets Exponents

BEDMAS is the ORDER OF OPERATIONS

I learned this year In order to solve a question with multiple operations there is an order to follow

and it is the Order of Operations

First you remove the bracketsThen exponents

Then division and/or multiplicationThen addition and/or subtraction.

C- Coefficient

I learned that A number used to multiply a variable.Sometimes a letter stands in for the number.

Example: “6z” means 6 times z and "z" is a variable, so 6 is a coefficient.

D- Denominator

I learned that The bottom number in a fraction.

Shows how many equal parts the item is divided into.

23 · 24 = 23+4 = 27

You add the exponents

25 ÷ 23 = 25-3 = 22

You subtract the exponents

(23)2 = 23·2 = 26

You multiply the exponents

F- Fractions

There are 3 way to do fractions

-Adding

-Subtraction

-Multiplication

-Dividing

To do adding/subtraction fractions remember to get the same common denominator, then add/subtract.

Multiplication is the simplest, all you do isMultiply the numerator by the numerator,and the denominator by the denominator.

Dividing may seem complicated at first but all you need to Do is, Flip the second fraction, and then it turns into aMultiplication Fraction^^^

G- Geometry

Geometry is all about shapes and their properties.

Plane Geometry is about flat shapes like lines, circles and triangles. Shapes that can be drawn on a piece of paper

Solid Geometry is about three dimensional objects like cubes, prisms, cylinders and spheres

I learned:

H- Hypotenuse

The hypotenuse is the LONGEST side of a right triangle.

I learned:

I- Integers

Integers are like whole numbers, but they also include negative numbers

NO FRACTIONS!

You can also add, subtract, multiply, divide integers.

I learned:

J- Just Do It

Just Do it is used to multiply fractions All you have to do is JUST DO IT

Its simple……. JUST DO IT

I learned:

K- Kilometer

A Metric measure of distance. Equal to 1,000 meters.

1 kilometer = 0.6 miles approximately.

I learned:

L- Linear EquationsA linear equation is an equation for a straight line

Example: y = 2x+1 is a linear equation

y = 3x - 6 y - 2 = 3(x + 1)

y + 2x - 2 = 05x = 6

Examples

M- Multiplication

multiplication is repeated addition.

For example: 7 × 3 = 7 + 7 + 7 = 21

as well as multiplying by whole numbers you can also multiply by fractions or decimals.

N- Number Line

The number line is a line of numbersthat has negative and positive numbers

Greater

Smaller

The lines continue forever left and right

I learned:

O- Obtuse Angle

An angle that has measure more than 90° and less than 180

I learned:

P- π

The ratio of the Circumference to the Diameter of a Circle.

Used to find the area of a circle, and surface area of a cylinder

I learned:

Q- Quadrant

Any of the 4 areas made when we divide up a plane by an x and y axis.

They are numbered I, II, III and IV

I learned:

R- Rational Numbers

A Rational Number is a real number that can be written as a simple fraction like a ratio

Pi is not a rational number, it is an "Irrational Number".

2.12 is a rational number (212/100) −6.6 is a rational number (−66/10)

I learned:

S- Surface Area

The total area of the surface of a three-dimensional object.

A = 2 (wl+hl+hw) Formula to get the surface areaof a rectangular prism

A = 2πrh+2πr2 Formula to get the surface areaof a cylinder

I learned:

T- TrianglesThere are 3 types of triangles:

Scalene Triangles

Isosceles Triangles

Equilateral Triangles3 equal sides

2 equal sides

No equal sides

I learned:

U- Unlike terms

Terms with different variables and/or different exponents.

Examples of unlike terms

I learned:

V- Variable

A symbol for a number we don't know yet. It is usually a letter like x or y.

in y + 20 = 6 y is the variable.

I learned:

W- Whole number

There are no fractions or decimals, not even negativesI learned:

X- X axis

The line on a graph that goes horizontally through zero.

I learned:

Y- Y axis

The line on a graph that runs vertically through zero.

I learned:

Z- Zero

It is the first whole number. It has the property that every number added to it can equal the number.
