On page 16 when Salva meets the old woman the text states, “he was glad that she was not Nuer…no one was sure where Nuer land ended and Dinka land began, so each tribe lay claim to the areas richest in water. “This demonstrates how Salva feels more comfortable with his own tribe because he understands the negative relationship the two tribes have always had.

-Thinks the Dinka tribe is violent.-Dislikes that the tribes fight.-Understands that the Dinka tribe prevents her from living by the lake.`

Dislikes the Nuers

Knows the tribes have always fought over control of water.

Text Evidence(quote)

On page 26 the author

states, “Nya’s family did not live by the lake all year round because of the fighting.“ This demonstrates how Nya would dislike the Dinka tribe because they prevent her from living by the lake for 7 months of the year. This causes her to make that harsh journey to the pond twice a day.
