Quick Installation Guide

INSTALLATION

Note 1: Do not insert the Wireless PC Card

into your computer until the procedures in

“Install Driver & Utility” has been performed.

Note 2: For Windows 98SE/ME, it is not

necessary to upgrade the version of Service

Pack. However, for Windows 2000, you need to

upgrade windows up to Service Pack 3 or above;

for Windows XP, you just need to upgrade it to

Service Pack 1.

Install the Driver & Utility

1. Exit all Windows programs. Insert theincluded CD-ROM into your computer.

If the CD-ROM fails to run automatically, go

to your CD-ROM drive (e.g. drive D) and

double-click on autorun.exe.

2. When the main screen of the CD-ROM opens,click Install Driver & Utility to start theinstallation.

3. When the Welcome screen appears, clickNext to continue.

4. In License Agreement, click Yes to acceptthe terms. Then, the installation will finishautomatically.

Note for Windows 98SE/ME users

When Windows finish the installation, select“Yes, I want to restart my computer now.”and then click Finish to reboot your computer.

Install the Device

Note: Make sure the procedures in “Install

Driver & Utility” has been performed before

you install the device.

1. Plug the Wireless USB Adapter into the PC’sUSB Port.

2. Once the device has been inserted to yourcomputer, Windows will detect the newhardware.

3. Refer to the following section according toyour operating system for important notice.

Note for Windows 98SE users:

1. Before installing the device, make sure youhave your original Windows 98 CD-ROM athand.

2. Once the “Please insert the disk labeled‘Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM,and then click OK” window appears, clickOK.

Note for Windows ME users:

After installing the device, the system will finish

the process of the installation automatically.

Note for Windows 2000 users:

When the “Digital Signature Not Found”

screen appears, click “Yes” to continue.

Note for Windows XP users:

1. Select Install the software automatically(Recommended) and click Next.

2. Click Continue Anyway.

3. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Verify

To verify if the device exists in your computer and

is enabled, go to Start � Settings � Control

Panel � System (� Hardware) � Device

Manager. Expand the Network Adapters

category. If the USB 2.0 Wireless Network

Adapter is listed here, it means that your device is

properly installed and enabled.

USE CONFIGURATION

UTILITY

Once you have successfully installed the

Wireless PC Card’s Driver and Utility in your

computer, a Utility Shortcut icon will

appear on your desktop. Double-click this

shortcut icon to open the configuration utility

that allows you to set up and configure your

wireless connection. See the next section for

details of operation.

BASIC OPERATION

Setting Up a Wireless InfrastructureNetwork

1. You must have an Internet Access, namely a

Cable or DSL-subscriber line into your home

or office.

2. Connect the Cable/DSL modem to a

broadband router.

3. Connect the broadband router to an Access

Point. (If the broadband router has a built-in

access point already, then it won’t be

necessary to perform this step.)

4. Install the Driver & Utility. (Refer to the

previous section titled as such.)

5. Install the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB

Adapter into your computer’s USB Port.

(Refer to the previous section titled “Install

the Device”.)

6. After successful installation of the Driver and

Utility, a Utility Shortcut icon will appear on

the desktop. Click the Utility Shortcut icon to

open the Configuration Utility.

7. Press View Site to view Available Networks/APs.

8. Select an AP. Click Connect to associate this

AP.

Setting Up a Wireless Ad-Hoc (peer-to-peer) Network

1. Install the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB

Adapter into your desktop computer’s USB

Port (Refer to the previous section titled

“Install the Device”).

2. Install the Driver & Utility. (Refer to the

previous section titled as such.)

3. Install another 802.11g Wireless LAN USB

Adapter into your laptop computer’s USB

Port. (Refer to the previous section titled

“Install the Device”.)

4. After successful installation of the Driver

and Utility, a Utility Shortcut icon will

appear on the desktop. Click the Utility

Shortcut icon to open the Configuration

Utility.

5. Select the Profiles tab.

6. Click New.

7. Enter appropriate Name and SSID in thecorresponding fields.

8. Select � Ad Hoc for Network Mode.

9. In the Frequency/Channel frame, click the

down arrow button (�) to get a pull-down

menu. Select the channel of your preference.

10. Click OK.

11. For the other peers to associate with this

station, you also have to make sure: 1. All

the wireless adapters must use the same

SSID. 2. You must set all the wireless

adapters to the same channel. 3. The IP

address for each computer must be set on the

same subnet mask. Refer to the section titled

Network Connection for IP address settings.

12. Assign an IP Address to each computer on

the Ad-Hoc network.
