21 March is celebrated as a spring festival in Turkey
and in many other countries.
Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the beginning
of the year in Iranian calendar. The first day on the Ira-
nian calendar falls on the March equinox, the first day
of spring. At the time of the equinox, the sun is ob-
served to be directly over the equator, and the north and
south poles of the Earth lie along the solar terminator;
sunlight is evenly divided between the north and south
hemispheres.
The people of this land know Nowruz as a beginning of
the spring of nature and the start of the revitalization of
nature and freshness in the World.
Nowruz was held in Turkey until the early years of the
formation of Turkey Republic among Turkish in this
country. In Turkey, the community come together and
put on a type of street festival where traditional foods
and gifts are distributed among friends and family, and
the community spirit is renewed.
We celebrated the Nevruz on 21 th of March in our
school. Students took food and make picnics in school
garden. We prepared the traditional Nevruz fire and all
of us(students,
teachers and the
others) jumped
over the fire to
have a good start
for the spring.
And to leave the
all old and un-
happy events
back of us after
jump over the
fire.
It is the tradition
of people to jump
over the fire on
Nevruz Day.
An hour for the Earth
On the 31st of March, millions of people switched off
the lights at half past twelve for an hour. They did not do
it to save as much energy as possible in an hour, but to
manifest their care for the environment. We also showed
that we care and our school worked without the electrici-
ty for 60 minutes.
Our school
also prepared its
own Earth Day.
During the artis-
tic assembly, we
organized the
ecologic poetry
review and the
ecologic fashion
show. Students could see or present the fashion show of
costumes made from the secondary raw materials.
On the 21st of April, in
Elbląg, on Jagieillończyk
Square we participated in
the Hospice Help Day.
This event has it` s name:
Daffodils- Fields of Hope.
There were a lot of people
present because they want-
ed to help older people from Elbląg Hospice. Two of our
students took part in the competition, they danced and
sang. What is more, during the event, money were col-
lected in order to help the Hospice. We threw some mon-
ey to special cans and we got a small present- a daffodil.
Our pupils took a second place in the competition. They
were very happy as they could participate in this event.

“JU CALENNE”
At Villagrande, a small village near L’Aquila, every year
in the night of April 30th and May 1st is repeated a very
ancient rite, “ JU CALENNE ”.
It is a tall tree that is cut into the wood and put in front of
the churchyard of Villagrande: all the branches are
stripped, except the higher branch, on which the Italian
Flag is put.
The tree must be placed in front of the church before
dawn, because the owner could take it back.
This tradition has ancient origins and it dates back to pa-
gan rituals of the Lombards, who celebrated the fertility
of earth.
For this reason the church has tried to combat this cele-
bration, but the tradition continues even now.
The tree is removed on May 31st, it will be auctioned and
the proceeds
used for the feast of St. Antony, celebrated in June.
“ANCIENT FOUNTAIN”
On April 19th ,2012 we went to Vigliano: to see an
ancient fountain. Vigliano is a small village not far
from our school
Our guide was a country gentleman, Pietro Narduc-
ci ; he gave us some information about it.
The fountain dates back to the ancient Romans;
maybe it was in which way the waterwork was built.
The life of the people of the village depended from
that fountain up to 1934.
Women used to catch there water to drink and put it
in their “conche”, copper containers. They carried
them on their heads.
During summer there was a little water, so women
had to queue for many hours.
What did they do? They told news of the village or
talked behind the back of other women; sometimes
they quarreled over a trifle; sometimes they met their
boy friends.
Women went to the fountain to wash clothes in the
left side; they used soap made at home. The clothes
where very dirty.
The right side of the fountain was used by farmers.
They brought their animals twice a day to drink wa-
ter: cows, horses, sheep and donkeys.
Sometimes , in warm days, young men had a bath in
the fountain when women were absent.
After 1934 the fountain was abandoned because it
was no longer needed: a new nearer one was built.
In 2003 the fountain was restored to preserve the
memory of the past.
Sixth grade students are
going to perform “The
beauty and the beast”
by the end of the
course. It is a musical
play based on the Dis-
ney’s famous picture,
with humour, songs and a great love story.
The performance will be held in the “Teatro
Moderno” in Cabanillas del Campo, on May the
24th at 5 pm.
Sixth grade boys and girls, directed by teachers Jo-
sé Miguel and Víctor García, are working really
hard to present a really good play that we hope you
enjoy a lot.
Many people have a dog at home
nowadays and we must learn
how to treat our pet friends. Here
is some advice:
Pay special attention to the food. You must choose
it rationally, according to the dog’s age, race, the
exercise it does and its health an physical form.
The dog must be trained in order not to give prob-
lems and to obbey you.
A dog needs to go out and play frequently (twice a
day at least and for a long time), specially medium
and big dogs.
As other animals, dogs love their owners, and if
you treat them well they will love you as much as
you love them.
SCHOOL PROGRAMME
Our school has its own
school programme every
year. All the students take
part in it with the leading
of the teachers. We have
been preparing for it since
the beginning of the
school year. The programme is performed in the house
of culture in February or March. In the morning we
show our performance to other schools and to the
parents, grandparents and friends int he afternoon. We
have already prepared programmes about our country,
we have been travelling around the world etc. It is
always a great success.
SLOVAK POETRY
COMPETITION
The name of the
competition is ”Dobré
slovo” which means ”A
Good Word”. The aim of
the competition is to find
young talents and improve our Slovak language
knowledge.
The competition is organized in a small village Bátka
near Rimaszombat every year. Those who want to take
part in the competition have to send a message to the
organizers. There are only two conditions: to speak the
Slovak language fluently and to tell a story or recite a
poem. First we have a school competition then the best
ones can continue their performances in the dictrict
competition. I always participate in this competition
since I have been 7 years old. Fortunately, I win one of
the first three prizes every year. I am very happy to be a
participant of this competition because I can compare
my Slovak knowledge with other students’ one. I am
very proud of representing our school.
MIHÁLY TOMPA´S NATIONAL POETRY
