PRESIDENT’S REPORT AUGUST 2018
Hi everyone!
August was a busy month and was very enjoyable with good attendance by members and
their cars at ‘ALL HOLDEN DAY’ which attracted over 800 vehicles of different models and
type.
Our second event for the month of August was then the Shannons event at Eastern Creek
with around 1900 cars of different makes and a brilliant variation of yearly models. It was
great to see a wonderfully restored FJ panel van win on the concourse event and also take
out the inaugural “BRYAN HORNE MEMORIAL” trophy.
It was a pleasure to have Jennifer Horne present the trophy. A very big THANK YOU must
go to club members who helped look after Jennifer, also it was a privilege to have Bryans
convertible on show as well. This was made possible by club members uniting to pitch in
and have the car back on the road again. Thank you to all who helped.
The August meeting was again well attended in the new venue and everyone enjoyed the
very comfortable conditions and thanks to Warren and Julie for their catering as usual.
The contributions for our Display day raffle are starting to come in and thanks for your
efforts. Please help with a gift of some sort.
The club sends its get well quick wishes to Robert Shaw, recovering from bicycle mishap. It
will take awhile to recover.
Our members who are having health issues seem to be coping, but if you know of some-
one who is not well, please let the committee know.
See you later

Qualification Table for HVS registration is attached to the Club minutes CMC DELEGATE Currently there are 1956 vehicles on CVS plates. RMS inspectors are attending Car Shows and taking details of non-compliant HVS vehicles and sending letters to the registered own-ers. 50% of the time the plates are just simply returned. Currently there are 174 Clubs affiliated with the CMC whilst the RMS has over 1000 Clubs registered on the HVS list. The CMC is aware of 600 clubs, and a further 400 Clubs that the CMC is not aware of? Sydney Machia Social Club applied for affiliation and was accepted. A further 3 Clubs have been sent affiliation forms. Points of interest are some spare parts from overseas do not meet Australian standards (e.g. windscreens), some insurance companies are advising repairers to source second hand airbags from wrecking yards, rumours of the RMS discontinuing the ‘Pink Slip Book-lets’ is incorrect, window sticker labels are to be discontinued and if your vehicle has been ‘engineered’, details must be on the registration papers and you must carry a copy of the Engineers Certificate with you or your car may be impounded. GM DISPLAY DELEGATE The committee met recently confirming next years Display Day will be held at The Museum of Fire, Penrith, There will be a change of layout and presentation of vehicles displayed to improve access and display. A theme for the day will be advised at a later day.

EVENTS September 16th – Clarendon Classic Rally, meet at the BP Service Station, 244 Hawkesbury Valley Way, Clarendon at 8.15am October 27th – Portland Swap Meet – meeting times tbc November 25th – Club Display Day, McQuade Park. Suggestions on a theme on the day is requested from the members, (e.g. type of display banners to be used, fancy dress, unique display of Holden vehicles etc). December - Looking at possible venues for the Christmas Party. Any suggestions would be appreciated. FACEBOOK REPORT & WEB REPORTS Nothing new to report GENERAL BUSINESS It was suggested that the Club should consider holding The Clubs Display Day at Prospect Reservoir some time in the near future. Feedback is required on what venue/event the Club should attend on Australia Day 2019. Discussed results from the resent auctions at Shannons Auctions. Two suggestions were put forward in relation to club meetings – monthly meetings could commence a half hour to an hour earlier than currently held (consideration for people that have to travel distances) and the possibility of holding by-monthly meetings (rather than meet every month), Both of these suggestions will be discussed by the committee at their next meeting. Feedback on these points from members would be appreciated. The club should check with 2CH to see if the Display day in December can be promoted on their community notice board (web site). TECH TALK Ray Rowe has some Rare Spares parts price lists available. The gauze insert in the brake master cylinder was shown to members. It is unique in that the gauze arrangement has a plated bottom, which actually restricts any fluid movement (in the master cylinder) that may cause a leak out the breather hole in the cap. Hard/ lazy starting of 6 volt vehicles was discussed. Clean electrical contacts are important especially around any earth contact. Engine timing should be checked, battery earth lead could be repositioned to connect with the starter motor securing bolts, or simply keep the battery on a trickle charge to ensure longevity and performance of the battery. If all else fails, source a new battery. It was suggested that a 6 volt battery can be sourced from Cen-tury batteries. RAFFLE Winners – Kris Magnoli, Paul Gianniotis, Ted Ashton and Paul Shears Ray Rowe closed the General Meeting at 9:52 pm.

All Holden Day Hawkesbury Showground, Sunday 5th August
The 33rd NSW All Holden Day was held under clear blue skies at Clarendon on the Hawkesbury Showground. Actually it would have been a bit of a shock if the weather had been anything but fine, given the severe drought the state is experiencing. There was the usual collection of Holdens as they were intended to be, then there were the ones as their owners thought they should look like. The numbers seemed to be down on previous years but there was still plenty to see. The swap meet area was full with ‘special bits’ that the stall holders hoped would find a new home before the day was out. Our club was represented by 8 cars and as usual drew an appreciative group of admirers. We had our gazebo erected to provide shelter for our members and there was a plentiful supply of nibbles (thankyou ladies) for those of us who like to ‘graze’ through the day. Club members who attended were: Geoff Smith 50-2106 ute Davis Stephens modern Warren Ross 50-2106 ute Howard Smith modern Ray & Lyn Rowe FJ sedan Ted Ashton train Dennis Gardner FJ sedan Robert Shaw JX-408 Kris, Jeff & Adam Magnoli 48-215 sedan Stephen & Zac Clifton - modern Paul & Dennis Shears 48-215 sedan Peter & Sue Hesse FJ sedan Stan Bennett 48-215 sedan Visitors were Eve Lauter & Steve Wells.

2018 CMC Day Sydney Motorsport Park,
Sunday 12th August It was a cold and windy day at CMC 2018. At 8:30 it was 10 deg C and by 12:00 it had
screamed up to 16 deg C with a 28 kmph wind to help things along. Our course announcer
estimated 2000 cars in attendance. All areas were well covered by cars of all makes and
vintages. Our club was represented by 10 48-215s & FJs. Our allocated area was the same
as last year, on the northern boundary of the facility. This is quite a good position as it al-
lows quick entry in the morning & exit at the end of the day. We erected our club gazebo
next to the perimeter fence and settled down for the day, trying to keep out of the
wind. Our club was allocated an early opportunity (9:30 am) to take to the racing track for a
demonstration lap or two, behind the course car which held the speed down to 80 kmph.
We didn’t want to show up the European makes, they get their noses out of joint very easi-
ly.
Ohhhh, mister President
