FROM THE DESK OF MONSIGNOR HEITING
PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH…
In our gospel from Saint Matthew for the 31st Sunday in Ordinary
Time, we see Jesus exhorting the crowd to “practice what they preach”
and to not be like the Pharisees. Certainly, the timeliness of this
message is not lost on any one of us. We know the difficulty of always
putting into practice what we preach. Sometimes we are doing a better
job of this than at other times. Jesus also reminds us that humility
should guide all that we do. May the Holy Spirit continue to help all of
us in these endeavors!
THE ANNUAL RETREAT…
Each year, Bishop Quinn asks all of his priests to make an annual
retreat. The retreat that I signed up for begins Sunday evening,
November 5th and extends to Friday, November 10th. The retreat will
be held at the Alverna Center in Winona. During that time, we will not
have daily Mass in the parish cluster. Please keep me in your prayers
as I will remember all of you in mine.
PARISH CLUSTER WISHES…
Our sympathy and prayers to the family of St. Anthony parishioner
Craig “Boone” Martin Olsem who was buried on October 28, 2017.
May his soul and the souls of all of the faithfully departed through the
mercy of God rest in peace. Thank you to the parishioners of
Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Currie and to all parishioners in
our cluster who participated in the “Priest Appreciation Potluck” last
weekend. Everything from start to finish was well done and
appreciated. The potluck gave me the motivation for another 30 years
of priesthood!

RECONCILIATION PREPARATION Parents of 2
nd graders, remember that your first
homework pages are due tomorrow. You may have your student bring their completed
homework to Release, or drop them off in the basket on the youth table in back of church. Please pray for the eight 2
nd grade students
and their families who are preparating for First Reconciliation during our
Advent Communal Penance service on December 17 at St. Gabriel’s.
WHY RECONCILIATION MATTERS
What makes Catholicism special? An important thing that sets Catholics apart from our Protestant friends is the Sacraments. Sacraments are special graces by which we are able to draw closer to God. In our culture the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance) has become somewhat of a dying ‘art form’ ~ Partly, because of our pride, but also, because we’ve been conditioned to shy away from feeling uncomfortable … Stating your sins out loud is, frankly, embarrassing & hard! Of course it’s easier just not to go; and to justify doing so because “God already knows my sins.” Let this be a season of coming back to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Make no doubt, the devil whispers: “You don’t have to go …” Don’t believe him! There is incredible healing/renewal available through this amazing Sacrament. Mark Dec. 17 on your calendar.
BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN WE HAVE COLLECTED OVER $300!
Thanks to everyone who has contributed
… Filled baby bottles with loose coins
(and large bills!) – All of these funds will
be put to great use in assisting young
Moms facing crisis pregnancies.
Thank you for helping them
CHOOSE LIFE!
