Year website: – Submitted electronically – Applications due June 17, 2019

• 38 Nominations • 11 Applications

Selection Process

• Committee of six (6) previous NV Teacher of the Year recipients individually reviewed applications. • Rubric aligned with Council of Chief State School Officers

(CCSSO) National Expectations

• Phone Screenings and Panel Interviews conducted. • Five candidates receiving the highest scores were

submitted to Superintendent Ebert. • Superintendent Ebert selected 2020 NV Teacher of

the Year.

State Level Opportunities and Events • Serve as the Teacher Leader in Residence with

the Department • Participate in the NDE Powered By Teach to

Lead Nevada • Co-Facilitate the Superintendent’s Teacher

Advisory Cabinet • Attend the NNSTOY Annual Conference

National Level Opportunities and Events

• The Teacher of the Year participates in various national programs/events such as: – The Teacher of the Year Induction Program – The White House Presidential Ceremony – The Education Commission of the States Forum on

Education – International Space Camp – College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard

for Teachers

a CCSSO 2020 National Teacher of the Year candidate.

• CCSSO’s National Teacher of the Year is selected by a review board, who looks for a teacher that will: – inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn – have the respect and admiration of students, parents, and

colleagues – play an active and useful role in the community as well as in the

school – be poised, articulate, and possess the energy to withstand a

taxing schedule
