Coastal rowing is the extreme version, the adventure side of rowing. It involves rowing along a sea coast and out into the sea and is one of the fastest growing communities of rowers. It is especially popular in Italy, France and Great Britain.

It can be found in all corners of the world and is rapidly gaining attention across Asia.

~Coastal rowing is ideally suited to Hong Kong waters

~The Around the Island Race (ATIR) is an annual iconic Hong Kong event

~Hong Kong Coastal Rowing Championships since 2013

~Participation is growing year on year: Major annual races include Beau fort, Island Race Po Toi, Race Lamma Island Race, Stanley to Middle Island challenge, Head of the Bay etc

~Hong Kong has sent teams to the WRCC:

~ Bari, Italy 2012

~Helsingborg, Sweden 2013

~Thessaloniki, Greece 2014

~Lima, Peru 2015

~ATIR could be linked with WRCC (e.g. the following weekend)

4About the WRCC

~ Lima, Peru WRCC 2015 30 countries participated with over 200 rowers, men and women competing in three levels for ‘single’, ‘double’ and ‘four rowers’

~ Racing over two days, plus a practice day

~ 4 – 6km course (approx 20 – 35 minutes)

~ Open to club crews nominated by their member federations

~ Awarded by International Rowing Federation (FISA)

~ Held every year

~ First run in 2007 in Mandelieu, France
