Dutchess County Office for the Aging 2018-19 Annual Update
Abstract
Each year as part of its planning process, the Dutchess County Office for the Aging and its Advisory Board conduct public hearings to obtain comments on services and service needs for senior citizens and their caregivers. This publication provides a summary of current services and plans for 2018-19.

All Public Hearing locations are handicapped accessible. Persons requiring special accommodations in order to take part in the Public Hearings should contact the Dutchess County Office for the Aging no later than two weeks prior to the scheduled event.
Services Provided A variety of services are provided by the Office for the Aging, both directly and through subcontracts with local providers. Below is a listing of services delivered between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017. Services provided through the Annual Implementation Plan are funded through a combination of Dutchess County funds, federal funds, state funds, and client contributions and cost share.

Client Profiles Services provided by the Dutchess County Office for the Aging are targeted to
those who are most vulnerable. The chart below depicts some information
regarding clients served between April 2016 and March 2017.
Impact on the Lives of Seniors and Caregivers Outcome and Client Satisfaction research conducted by the Office for the Aging
has found that the services offered have a significant impact in assisting seniors
to remain independent in the community and in relieving caregiver stress and
burden. Clients express a high degree of satisfaction with services provided
and have identified other outcomes as well.

2017 Initiatives and Accomplishments The Office for the Aging had the following accomplishments during 2016-17: Added a fifth day to the Home Delivered Meals program County-wide
as of July. Over 19,200 unduplicated clients and caregivers provided with
services ranging from information and assistance to case management, nutrition services, transportation, home care, respite, health promotion and legal services.
Department transitioned to a new mandated State-wide database system.
Achieved superior outcomes and levels of client satisfaction in Transportation, Case Management, In Home, Intake, Legal, Nutrition Services, and Senior Exercise and Mental Fitness programs.
Needs Assessment Surveys of senior citizens, caregivers and key informants tabulated.
Conducted prescription drug take back program at all senior picnics. Additional outreach conducted to reach underserved populations.
2018-19 Planned Activities The Office for the Aging plans the following initiatives for 2018-19:
Maintain services to the growing population of seniors, frail elderly and
caregivers in Dutchess County. Further outreach to underserved populations. Incorporate an additional route into the Home Delivered Meals
program for the Poughkeepsie area - where demand continues to grow.
Recruit additional substitute drivers for the Home Delivered Meals program.
