10 questions to ask about your redundancy and the support available to you

1. Why me?

Your employer must be able to demonstrate your role is no longer needed.

2. Who will do my work?

Will it be given to remaining staff? Do you have to provide a handover?

3. Are there any other roles?

If suitable vacancies exist elsewhere in the business, they must be made available to you.

4. When does my job end?

You may have to work out your notice, be put on gardening leave or be given payment in lieu of notice.

5. Can I say goodbye?

Will you get to see your colleagues, clients, customers and/or suppliers before you leave?

6. What can’t I do?

Your employment contract may have a restraint clause or confidentiality provisions.

7. What do I have to return?

How and when will you have to give back company equipment?

8. What’s my redundancy package?

Check you receive all your entitlements.Seek legal advice if you don’t get what you

think you deserve.

9. Will I get outplacement help?

Outplacement services provide emotional support, career coaching and job search advice.

10. How will I get a reference?

Your employer may have a process for providing references. Some organisations only

provide a statement of services.
