10 Insights on Making an Impact
This presentation consists of highlights from the interview with Moe Abdou,
founder & host of 33voices®.
As the eldest child of two Salvation Army Commanding Officers, Mina Chang was im-mersed in inner-city social programs and world mission projects and got a first-hand look
at how these efforts can save and change lives. Her childhood exposed her to the en-tire economic spectrum around the world. As a child, she did not see poverty-stricken children of disaster areas as any different from herself, but she instinctively knew they
needed help. As a graduate of the University of the Nations, Mina studied development and aid practices with the goal of one day dedicating her life to becoming a full-time aid worker. Mina is a graduate of the Executive Nonprofit Leadership Program at Southern
Methodist University and the Center for Nonprofit Management.

Insight #1
Insight #2
Givers don’t need a reason to love. To them, Love is a verb
that connects humanity.
Insight #3
Wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure. Seek not to see
the struggle in the child, but her possibilities— if given an opportunity.
Insight #4
A passionate humanitarian lives inside each of us. Ignite it by recognizing that we are all
responsible for our shared future.
Insight #5
At Linking the World, the cycle of poverty is disrupted when local
communities are empowered to take ownership of their success — for they
know that the only thing standing between them and their dreams is their fears.
Insight #6
The leader who mirrors her team will rise — for she knows that in a shared
spirit lives their shared mission.
Insight #7
Above all else, admired leaders identify talented individuals and equip them with the
capabilities to do what she could never do alone.
Insight #8
“A child can teach an adult three things: to be happy for no reason, to always be busy with something, and to know how to demand
with all his might that which he desires.”
- Paulo Coelho on learning from a child
Insight #9
Next time you’re engaged in a fundraisinginitiative, seek not to ask for a contribution.
Instead, try first to open the mind of the individual; for only then will her
heart and wallet follow.
Insight #10
Embrace the difficult challenge, for “the real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
If you saw the eyes of your child in a struggling stranger,
what would you do?
