Structure of responsibility for HDR in the Faculty (1)

Faculty HDR Sub-committee has been established with professional staff, academic staff and student members.

It includes all Departmental HDR coordinators.

It reports to the Faculty Board.

Structure of responsibility for HDR in the Faculty (2)

Signature delegations have been put in place.

For all key pathway indicators (eg commencement reports, progress reports, appointment of examiners, reports on examiners’ reports,

certification of corrections), there will be the involvement of – Principal supervisor– Head of Department or HDR Coordinator– AD HDR

Ethics

• Ethics applications to be streamlined

• New Faculty-based ethics processes

Supervisor training

• Supervisor register to be completed• Separate training modules for

experienced and inexperienced supervisors

• Supervisor mentoring through co-supervision

Commencement and completion targets 2009

• Commencement target: 100– 28 enrolments to date, possibly 60 by end

S1– Marketing strategies to be established in

2009

• Completion target 64– Likely to be near achievement by end S1

Pathway programs

• Review of PG Certificate Research programs

• Possible Faculty-wide program to include areas not yet covered

Commencement programs

• Central commencement program• Faculty commencement program• Department commencement program

• Commencement programs to be reviewed in March-April

Thesis by publication

• Faculty guide to thesis by publication to be developed, building on existing guides

• Thesis by publication to be encouraged in line with University strategies

Minimum resource allocation

• Different sections of the Faculty have developed different practices in allocation of resources to HDR candidates

• Recognition that different disciplines have different needs

• Development of a statement of minimum support

Responses to feedback

• Faculty HDR Sub-committee to report on responses to feedback from PREQ, MUSEQ-R and other feedback mechanisms

Research seminars

• Programs of research seminars at different levels:– Research Centre– Department– Faculty

• Interdisciplinary seminars grouped around research questions rather than research paradigms

• Faculty Research Showcase event

Knowledge transfer

• Encouragement of knowledge sharing through:– Publications, ensuring compliance with

library information ethics and other guidelines

– Conference presentations– Partnerships with industry– Interaction with end-users, eg

• Hospital• Hearing hub• Professional communication

Joint PhD and co-tutelle programs

• Increase number of candidates on joint PhD programs

• Ensure that joint PhD agreements lead to development of collaborative research between institutions

• Develop programs within a strategy of developing international partnerships
