ADDENDUM NO. 1 RFP NO. 10014

For the SRJ Day Room Induction Lighting Retrofit Project Specification Clarification/Modification, Response to Questions, Bid Conference Attendee

List October 9, 2009

______________________________________________________________________________ Issued by the General Services Agency, Technical Services Department, 1401 Lakeside Drive, Oakland, California. TO ALL PROSPECTIVE PROPOSERS for the above project, notice is hereby given that the following changes, modifications, corrections, clarifications, and additions, as herein set forth, shall apply to the Request for Proposal issued for Project #10014 and shall be made part thereof and subject to all requirements as if originally specified. The List of Attendees (Attachment A) of the mandatory bid conference meeting on October 8, 2009 is included for information only. Receipt of this Addendum No. 1 must be acknowledged on the form in the bid proposal in writing.

Specifications Division 1: Document 01 11 00: Scope of Work: 1) Add the following to Part 2 Products:

All approved equal manufacturers must meet all of the parameters specified, including the input system wattage equal to 122 watts ± 5%. Bench testing of a sample system will be required to ensure that the system input wattage requirement is met.

2) Add the following to Part 2 Products:

Reflectors Retrofit reflectors and reflector kits must be constructed with a minimum 24 gauge steel or aluminum and have a white powder coat finish with a total reflectivity 91%. Reflector Kits must be designed such that the average initial lumen output (30 days after installation) of the induction lighting system, is at least 30 foot candles at the table top in each day room using an approved industry standard light meter.

3) Add the following to Part 2 Products:

The 10-year manufacturer’s system warrantee will cover the parts and labor required to replace any failed induction system. If the County’s Building Maintenance Department replaces any failed induction system part during the warrantee period, the manufacturer will reimburse the County at a fixed $30 per incident. The contractor will warrantee in the installation for one year after the project is accepted by the County.

4) Add the following to Part 1 General: Section 1.05 Existing Conditions:

C. For Reference, existing Day Room Metal Halide Fixture Cut Sheets are attached to the Addendum. There are two types of existing fixture. There are a total of 696 fixtures manufactured by Northern Lights and 144 fixtures manufactured by Fail Safe. Each fixture uses security screws. The contractor will ensure that all security screws in the existing fixtures are properly tightened when the retrofit is completed.

Response to questions: 1. Question: What is the height of the existing fixture in the Day Rooms?

Answer: The measured height from the floor to the bottom of the fixture is nominally 18 feet and 6 inches.

2. Question: What is the voltage of the existing fixtures?

Answer: 277V.

3. Question: Can I get a copy of the cut sheet for the existing fixture? Answer: Yes, the cut sheets have been attached to this addendum.

4. Question: Are there photos of the existing fixtures that are available? Answer: Yes, the photos are attached to this addendum

5. Question: Do the existing fixtures use security screws? Answer: Yes.

6. Question: Can I use the County’s onsite scissors lift during the retrofit? Answer: No, contractors must provide all of their own equipment and tools in order to complete the project.

7. Question: Can I get a list of the pre-bid conference attendees? Answer: The list is attached to his addendum.

8. Question: Will the lighting circuit be turned off while we are working in the fixtures? Answer: If requested, the County will allow the contractor to lockout/tagout the appropriate circuits when the fixtures are being worked on.

9. Question: Can I substitute a competing manufactures induction lamp retrofit kit? Answer: Any request for substitution, before the bid due date, must be submitted to the County no later than October 13th to be considered. The substitution must meet all specification parameters as listed in the scope of work and in this addendum. Email requested substitutions to matt.muniz@acgov.org.
