Our installations and our challenges.

By 2030: The expansion of
railway services will require
25% more energy – and even
40% at peak times.
Energy-saving programme – objectives and structure.
Anchor energy efficiency in the company.
Efficiency on the move:
Target of 600 GWh/year from 2025.
Create transparency and manage energy consumption.

Initial position.

As demand is constantly increasing, SBB is reaching its limits in
terms of network capacity and timetable stability.
Train-path kilometres are expected to increase by 30% between
now and 2030.
The high level of integration between planning (scheduling) and
implementation (the performance of our train drivers) improves
precision in the production system. Despite the extra strain,
timetable stability is increased.
Increased precision in production.
Calculating energy-optimised and ergonomic journey lines.
Supporting train drivers in their choice of driving strategy.
Reduced energy consumption when driving.
Reduction in avoidable stops at signals.
Increasing the number of braking operations with electrical
brakes.

Freight train 50232 is optimised between 522 and 1822. Here, the system must prevent 50232
from having to make an unplanned stop while ensuring that 1822 does not arrive late in Lenzburg.
In order to solve this problem, ADL first calculates a high speed. As soon as 1822's arrival in
Lenzburg is ensured, Vopt can be reduced to allow the train to continue on behind 522 without any
conflicts.
