Signal Types- Define a “Digital” and “Analog” signal

Analog signals can be constantly varying within a specified range. In our system analog signals are coming to the I/O module from temperature and pressure sensors. The sensors receives a voltage supply in for its power, and then in turn provides a voltage or and amperage signal back to the I/O module input. If a sensor output is a voltage signal, the voltage signal to the I/O module will be in the range of 0 - 5VDC. If the sensor output is an amperage signal it will be 4-20 mA range. The I/Os contacts at A and B inputs can be configured to receive input of either voltage or amperage signal types. (i.e. D511 X2) This configuration is done in the RCS programming. Digital signals are discrete and constant. (i.e. on /off). There is no between areas. These signals are represented as either a 1 or 0 on the actuations screens.
