Interior Finish Carpentry

Anything that requires woodwork in the finished stages.

Ex: Moldings around ceilings, Floors, Doors, Windows, shelving, cabinets, fireplace mantels, hand railing

Estimating Interior Finish and Millwork

Moldings are estimated by linear foot

Doors, Windows, Cabinets, etc. by the unit.

Cost of these items vary considerably with kind and grade of materials and the grade of workmanship .

Most Dependable Way To Estimate:

List quantity and cost of each item seperately Show the quantity and cost of labor to install each

Doors Doors can be made of wood or

metal.

Time required to set door

depends of size of opening

and quality of workmanship.

Exterior doors require more

time due to thickness.

Solid wood – exterior doors

Hollow wood –interior doors

Doors also can come prehung

from manufacturer.

vinyl. Prices vary greatly.

Prefabricated window frames are sent from supplier and are installed in previously framed stud walls.

Typically includes: Designation (usually by letter) Size in width and height Material composition of the sash and

frame Manufacturer and model number Type or Function (ex. Fixed, double-

hung) Glazing requirements

Window Schedule

Wood Furring Strips Placed on masonry and

concrete walls to permit installation of gypsum, prefinished plywood, or other type of finished interior wall materials.

Labor Hours required

to place wood furring strips and grounds in usually estimated by 100 lf.

Gypsum Wallboards

Known as Drywall, aka sheetrock Manufactured in sheets ½” or 5/8” thick and 4’x 8’ or 4’ x

10’ Fastened to furring strips on concrete walls, directly to

studs, and to the ceiling joists. Labor hours required to install drywall varies with size and

complexity of area. (round walls are more complex than flat walls)

Wallboard & Drywall

Priced by the square foot (SF) Taping and finishing are listed by SF Pricing depends on finishing:

Textured, smooth, sprayed Hanging drywall is usually done by a crew Usually a budget is allotted for touch-ups

Wall Paneling Prefinished plywood panels are

used to cover walls and ceilings.

Panels are ¼” – ¾” thick and 4’ wide by 8’ long.

Available in almost every type of wood.

Cost depends on size and species. The cost of labor installing

plywood panels varies considerably with size, shape, and complexity of area.

Waste factor can be high depending on shapes in areas.

Interior Trim Moldings

Base board moldings are made of pine or oak

Installed at floor level around the room.

Crown molding are installed at ceiling level

Wood Flooring

Lumber used for flooring includes pine, fir, maple, spruce, and oak.

Available in prefinished strips that have tongue and groove slots that are glued, rather than nailed.
