Measure Title: PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF JUNE 2008 ASFILIPINO VETERANS APPRECIATION MONTH.

My name is Franklin Borromeo, President of the OahuFilipino Community Council (OFCC). OFCC is composed of62 member organizations on Oahu. Our Council's mission isto improve the quality of life for Hawaii's Filipinos, in orderfor our communities to make positive contributions to theState of Hawaii, where we are grateful to have had theprivilege to live, work, prosper, and raise our families overthe last one hundred years.

The Oahu Filipino Community Council stronglysupports this bill to designate June as Filipino VeteransAppreciation Month. Many Filipino World War II veteransand their family are longtime members of the OFCC, whichpassed a resolution to advocate for Filipino World War IIveterans equity at our statewide annual convention in June2006.

I support HCR22 & HR22, PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF JUNE 2008 ASffiIPINO VETERANS APPRECIATION MONTH, as these resolutions recognize theFilipino Veterans who defended our Country.

The Filipino soldiers and scouts helped to reestablish United States authority in thePacific and protected our positioning against enemy forces during World War II.

The Filipino community would most certainly be proud of this fine recognition and percapita, Hawaii has the highest Filipino population.

I support HCR22 & HR22, PROCLAIMlNG THE MONTH OF JUNE 2008 ASFILIPINO VETERANS APPRECIATION MONTH, as these resolutions recognize theFilipino Veterans who defended our Country during World Warn.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, over 200,000 Filipino Soldiers were called to serve forthe U.S. Military.

Our Filipino soldiers and scouts helped turn the war in favor of the United States andtogether with U.S. Forces protected our military striking ability in the Pacific duringWorld Warn.

The people of Hawaii would love to honor our outstanding Filipino Veterans, many ofwhom are in their 80's or 90's. I

I ask that you pass these resolutions to recognize and honor a part of U.S. MilitaryHistory, our Filipino Veterans.
