Objectives

• Prepare for an interview in terms of travel, documents to take and greeting the interviewer

• Take appropriate follow-up action after an interview

• Complete letter responses from a job offer, both accepting and rejecting one

Where is the Interview?

• Correct address

• Know the suite number

• Travel to the site a few days before the interview

When & With Whom?

• Now with whom you are meeting• Know how to pronounce his/her name correctly! • Complete paperwork prior to meeting with the

interviewer. Plan ahead & give yourself at least 15 minutes to complete the application.

• Sample script for calling to plan– “Hello, my name is ____. I have a 9am appointment for an

interview on Tuesday, April 7, for a ____ position. Could you give me the name of the interviewer and the person’s position? Would you spell the name for me, please? I would appreciate directions on how to get to your company.”

– Ask how long they will be interviewing for the position

Thank You Letter

• Purpose

• Send within 2 days

• Topics– Be specific– Express thanks

• Spelling, grammar and punctuation

Negotiating Salary

• You are getting an entry-level position!

• Be realistic– Check salaries of Concorde graduates

• Wait for them to broach the subject

• Benefits are part of your salary

Acceptance Letter

• Confirm terms of employment such as title, start date, start time & salary

• Express your excitement and appreciation for the offer

Rejection Letter

• If accepting another offer or are no longer interested

• Always thank the company for the offer, but at present you unable to accept

• Thank them for taking the time to meet with you

• Be cautious—don’t burn bridges• Set an impression of conscientiousness
