1.9A FOREST FACTS

An average Birch tree gives off up to 4,000 litres of water in one summer’s day

Forest Regions of Canada

A western Douglas fir can produce 180,000 seeds [3.5 bushels in a good year]

In a good year an average white pine can produce about 30,000 seeds [one bushel].

A Bushel is an imperial, customary unit of dry volume, equivalent to 4 pecks or 8 gallons .

○ One gallon is about 4 litres, so 1 bushel is about 32 litres.

In the average deciduous forest you will find about 22 million tonnes of leaves per hectare.

A squirrel living in the giant west coast forest may collect and store as much as eight bushels of seeds in on spot.
