Visuals and sounds

1 little bad example – IMOHO Always consider what is the benefit of having a digital version versus the physical one. IMOHO, In Dr. Seuss apps (by Ocean Media House) there is no meaningful interactivity. Remember, the biggest challenge for an app addressing children is the big button that switches to another app, usually “Angry birds” and “Temple Run…”

Leaving something behind

Two great examples:

“Teddy’s day” by Auryn – saving the user’s illustrations done inside the app

“The Witch with no name” – saving the user’s name and sound.

Time = Commitment

Double Go-To-Action Helpers*

Bartelby’s Book of Buttons. You must read it carefully and listen to the story in order to move

forward. Other examples show visual hints and directions. Sandra Boynton’s “Going to bed book” by LoudCrow

Typography

The only known app that uses typography is

“The Monster at the end of the book”

by “Sesame Street”

Please try to use it more frequently…

Extending the boundaries

“Out-of-the-Box”

i.e. allows children to explore and expedite

more than reaches the eyes

“Little Fox Studio” app showing this very well and “Piccadilly Circus”. Far more interesting.
