TRANSCRIPT
On February 13th we held our 2nd Annual Valen-
tine’s Dinner Dance with the GVR Amigas. Over
150 people showed up to a wonderful evening of
great home cooked food, live music, dancing, and
a night of fun! We were also treated to a demon-
stration from the GVR Square and Round Danc-
ing Club with audience participation. We would
like to thank all those volunteers who came early
to help setup, stayed late to clean up, and the Ami-
gas for doing an amazing job selling Raffle Tickets
to help cover the expenses to continue to make
this a free event. Since they did such a great job, it
was decided next year that the raffle will be a
50/25/25 along with some smaller “door prizes”.
Even though the live singer / guitarist was en-
joyed by all, next year we will hire a professional
DJ for more “party” dancing into the night! - More pics inside!

A Day at the Rodeo!
For our February “Out and About”, AmigOs members and their wives attended
the 94th La Fiesta de los Vaqueros, otherwise known as the Tucson Rodeo. It was
a beautiful sunny day with great seats to see all the action of the seven profes-
sional rodeo events. Cowboys, and cowgirls, competed in bareback riding, steer
wrestling, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, team roping, barrel racing, and the
ever popular bull riding.
President’s MessagePresident’s MessageDear Friends,
February may be the shortest
month of the year, but as far as our
AmigOs Club goes, it’s long on fun!
Our Second Annual Valentine’s
Dinner Dance with the Amigas was
a great success. Our monthly
breakfast group keeps on growing that the restaurant
created a special express menu just for us at a disocunted
price. We got into the southwestern spirit by attending the
Tucson Rodeo. Through the interest groups we bowled,
played golf, read a good book, played cards, went shooting
at the range, shared stories, and of course socialized and
built friendships. All in all, it was a great month!
If you haven’t yet taken part in any of the special interest
groups, please take a look at what we have to offer and try
something new. You may surprise yourself. If you have a
different interest then please let us know and we can help
you start up a new group to share your enthusiasm with
other members.
As always, if you have any questions, club suggestions, or
just want to make a comment, please email me at:
[email protected] or speak to me in person at
any meeting or activity.
Yours in Service and Dedication,
ROB PETRILLO

It is with great sadness that we report
the passing of Tom Cavanagh, Sr.,

Green Valley resident and wood shop
aficionado known to many.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the
Cavanagh family.
The Fellowship Committee is charged with informing our club of
those members who are hospitalized, recovering from a major illness,
suffered a loss, etc. They will also be sending cards and keeping
abreast of updates. If you or a member that you are aware of falls
into this category please email Larry at: [email protected].

Second Annual Valentine’s Dinner Dance
“Out and About” at the Rodeo!
“Jack of All Trades, Master of Fun” Bowling Day
Book Club GroupThe next meeting of the
AmigOs Book Group
will be on Friday, April 5
at 10 AM at Mike Cichy’s
home (940 W Quail Drive,

Our next book to discuss, as voted on
at the last meeting, will be Sixty Milesof Border by Terry Kirkpatrick. It is
available in paperback for $16 on
Amazon but only available in Spanish
on Kindle.
These are the gritty and graphic true
stories of the author and his fellow
“Border Rats” stationed at the U.S.
Customs Office in Nogales, AZ. From the inhuman con-
ditions people suffer under to get onto American soil, the
battle against drugs, to working with blatantly crooked
military leaders, to some of the most insane and unbelievable
situations ever survived, readers will experience the chaos
that has engulfed the U.S. border in the words of a man
who has been there. 60 Miles of Border sheds an unsparing
light into the life of customs agents, their dealings on the
border, the effect on their daily lives—and an unsparing
look at one of the most hotly debated and controversial
topics in modern America.
Golfing GroupLike to golf? Always wanted to

Special Interest GroupsSpecial Interest GroupsOne of the best things about the AmigOs Men’s Club are the unlimited number of special interest groups that we can have.
If you have a hobby, interest, or skill that at least one other member shares with you then you can start a group. Each group
can decide when to meet, how often to meet, and what to do within the group. One person is chosen as the chair and to-
gether, hopefully will expand the size of the group. Mike Malenfant has compiled the interests of our current members into
a spreadsheet. If you wish to start a group with others who share a similar interest, feel free to call or e-mail each other and
get something started. Once you have your group, contact the Special Interest Committee Chair at [email protected]
to make it official.
Breakfast GroupThe AmigOs’ monthly
breakfast group meets at
9am on the first Saturday
of every month at the
Grill on the Green. Join a
large and friendly bunch of guys for good food and good
conversation. A great opportunity to meet and get to know
other members in a relaxing atmosphere. For more infor-
mation contact Manny Rivers at [email protected]
Birding GroupSouthern Arizona is one of the best loca-
tions for bird watching in the country. Our
group will have day trips visiting some of
the ideal spots to see and learn about some
of the many different species found here.
If you are a birder or are interested in
becoming one, contact Rob Petrillo at
[email protected] or (917) 599-7663.
Couple’s GroupThe couples group holds social
activities for members and their
wives/girlfriends. We have had
dinners, game and movie nights,
dancing, parties, outings, and
more. Contact: [email protected]
Shooting GroupLearn about gun safety, gain
confidence and proficiency
through regular range firing
exercises. We also seek to
ensure that each member
understands state and federal laws regarding their rights
to own and bear fire arms, and that they respect the rights
of others through responsible gun ownership. Our next
outing to the Southeast Regional Shooting Park will be
held on Saturday, March 9th at 7am. Spouses are

Ira Cochran at: [email protected] - 6 -

• Treasurer’s Report – Ira reported a beginning balance of $1,270.82 with no revenues for the month and expenses of
$7.55 for a balance of $1,263.77 ending February 2019. As he hasn’t received the bank statement for February 2019, these
numbers are subject to change.
o It was discussed and agreed that we will institute an audit committee to conduct an annual review of the club’s
finances and financial records.
• Secretary’s Report – Fred reported a total of 95 currently paid members including 2 renewals (Ira Cochran and Bernard
Sauve) during January 2019 and three new members: Robert Stanger, Rick Gingery, and Richard Stoesser. There is a dis-
crepancy between this reported number and the 90 individuals Ira has recorded. Fred provided the formal roster for Ira to
cross-check and resolve this discrepancy.
o Fred will follow with Phil Nicolay on the individual who gave him his renewal monies, which will increase the
formal number to 96.
[this total was increased to 99 with the addition of new members: Stanley Stein, Gary Thiele, Richard Hodges]
• Old Business
o Larry reported that the Border Patrol Tour is full, and they will begin to take names for the waiting list.

thus far.
o Bill has expanded the Poker group to 2 tables of 7 each.
o Next Meet & Greet is March 16th.
• Other Business
o It was discussed and decided that a specific agenda item would be placed on the March and April Meet & Greet agenda to
solicit ideas for next year’s Out & About events.
o By-Laws Issue – Rob reported that per our by-laws and Robert’s Rules of Order the groups’ Webmaster and Database
Administrator are both considered ex-officio members of our Board with full voting rights, which was not our original
intent. Following discussion, it was agreed that we would ignore this requirement until later in the year and take appropriate
action prior to our next annual meeting to incorporate any additional by-law changes to limit this action to once per year.
There being no other business, the meeting adjourned at 5:18 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Fred Monique – AmigOs Secretary
