Another acknowledgement – this time to our student Project Leaders who are working hard to coordinate the weekly student Tuckshop. Thanks to members of the P&C who are doing homebake to add another interesting dimension to Tuckshop Day with 50cents buying a piece of delicious slice or cake. We have completed our annual Investing For Success (I4S) agreement for the additional $22 665 funding from the Queensland Government for our school. This year the funding will be used expanding our Learning Areas to include Humanities and Social Sciences to include Civics and Citizenship as well as implementing French as our Language other than English (LOTE). The Bus Committee is meeting will be held on Wednesday 7th March at 7pm. Please note

this date on your calendar and come along to support our school bus service.

P & C News

Hi Folks, Just a few P &C Reminders we would like to draw your attention to:

Home bake - Thank you to the parents who have offered to supply home bake. There is a roster attached to the newsletter. The school in conjunction with Lynette thought it would be better to have the home bake on Wednesday’s with the Project Club lunch. Your child / children can purchase a piece of home bake for 0.50c. Home bake is available tomorrow.

P & C AGM & General Meeting is this Thursday 1st March at 4pm in the old music room near Anita’s Office. All parents/carers are invited to attend. We encourage as many parents and community members as possible to attend. All executive positions become available at the AGM, so if you would like to have a greater input into how funds are raised and spent for your children, please consider a position on the executive committee.

Rodeo – It’s not too late to still offer a little bit of your time to assist in serving or cooking. Any time you could spare would be greatly appreciated. $250 will be donated to the P & C to help subsidise some of the upcoming camp fees.

Pie Drive – Please have your orders and correct money back to school by 12th March. Could you please put these in the PURPLE Box. Thank you for your support.

Monster Market – Please save this date 24th March. We are still looking for donations and assistance on the day (7am - 12.00/1.00pm).

Have a fantastic week.

This week, we are investigating the concept of Number – place value, what comes next, before, use of MAB. Preppies will be looking at the number 6. The Prep children are continuing to count, match, sort, and sequence numbers to 10. Rapid recall of number facts enables the children to complete their activities in the required time. Well done to Lachy and Dustin for achieving 100% in their Friday tests last week. “Our Rooster Jack” is the text for the Year 1 and 2 children. Children will listen, discuss, sequence, look for nouns, and adjectives in the text and use the Time Line format fill in the parts of the story in their own words. From the Year 3, Year 4 and Year Classroom

From STEM to STEAM – by now everyone will be used to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) acronym. Now it’s time to introduce STEAM, with an A for Arts. Technology for STEAM helps students use their knowledge of digital technology to produce art. We are looking to further engage our students with Visual Arts by adding this technology edge. As we currently enter competitions such as Crisps Art, we will be using STEAM tools to help us with our efforts. Because of our experience with origami, we wanted initially to add more to the traditional art of paper folding. By adding simple circuits to paper sculptures, they can be instantly animated to create unique sculptures. Thus our traditional “Transportation of the Granite Belt” can become something much more interesting by simply adding a light or two then more complex additions such as motors for movement. The product we will be using to enable this is Teknikio Activating Origami.

In previous years, there has been a Multi-media competition between Granite Belt schools. This year, the focus has been changed to STEAM. For the purpose of this competition a typical STEAM project would

be characterised by the following features:

the different media it possesses and makes use of

the use of digital technologies

the interaction it demands of the user

and the integration of sound, images, text and data into seamless applications Aim: The aim of this competition is to promote/recognise/increase the use of STEAM education

in schools by the recognition of excellent quality, student produced STEAM projects. Amiens State School should be well-placed to enter this competition too. In maths, Years 3 – 6 are reviewing and extending knowledge of geometry in the area of flips, slides and turns.

Thank you
