kidnapping sailors for their ships • Americans did not want to be cut off from trade

with the French • Thought the British/Canadians were arming the

First Nations and blocking settlement to the west • Americans wanted to take over Brit territories • British/Canadians entered the war because they

had to defend themselves

• Released all prisoners and restored captured ships

• Americans were able to push First Nations off of lands for further American settlement• Forced British to consider Americans

as an independent, sovereign nation. They were not allowed to capture American men for Brit ships anymore

First Nations Peoples Lose

• No consideration as part of Treaty of Ghent • Lost land• Later on, President Andrew Jackson places them in reservations (Indian Removal Act 1830)
