CWSC…Unleashing and harnessing the full capacity inherent in the group intellect
The ability to leverage intellectual resources and distribute talent across geographical and institutional boundaries,
and across the landscape of challenges and opportunities that face every community and institution—that’s what a
national intelligentsia can do for us and for the world. To unleash and harness the full capacity inherent in the
group intellect, we'll have to make the connections not only inside Scripture, but we'll also need to make the
connections with one another—that’s the path of progress for CWSC! Visit us at cwsc.us.
MISSION STATEMENT
To realize our model community vision by operating as a national intelligentsia, think tank, volunteer
resource and broadcasting network researching, designing, communicating and implementing solutions that
enhance goal achievement in all aspects of our community life.
VISION STATEMENT
To remake our world into a better place by unleashing and harnessing the full capacity inherent in the group
intellect.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The ethical guides for our actions are the Qur’an and the Life Example of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon
him). Our leadership legacy in Imam W. Deen Mohammed (R) serves as a contemporary example of the
application of Qur’an and the Life Example of Prophet Muhammed (S).
FOCUS
The Community Wide Shuraa Conference™ (CWSC) is established as a community service organization
supporting Qur’anic principle of representative democracy (mutual consultation) in the conduct of affairs and
believes that only through Shuraa can the power of our group intellect be fully utilized for solving problems
and discovering opportunities that help each of us improve our individual, family and community life.

The Inspirational Leadership of Imam Dr. W. Deen Mohammed (R) Planter
of the Seed for Our National Intelligentsia…
“Building a better community, better businesses, a better appreciation for our life, building on the greatness of our
history…that’s the work that must continue.” —Imam Dr. W. Deen Mohammed (1933-2008)
A world renowned religious scholar and leader for millions
of American Muslims, Imam Dr. Wallace Deen
Mohammed (R) dedicated his life building bridges of
interfaith respect and racial harmony. The son of Nation of
Islam leader the Honorable Elijah Muhammad (R), the
Imam led the transition of “so-called” Black Muslims and
the Nation of Islam to true Islam, dispelling false notions of
race and religion to make his community a new world
leader for the proper understanding and practice of Al-
Islam.
Author, scholar, businessman, and advisor to Presidents,
the Imam founded The Mosque Cares and Collective
Purchasing Conference. He served as an International
President for the World Conference on Religion and Peace
and on the World Supreme Council of Masajid. He was the
first Muslim in U.S. history to deliver an invocation on the
floor of the U.S. Senate. He inherited the struggle for
dignity and economic justice through the African-American
saga and Islamic influence woven into the history of blacks
both before and after American slavery.
The Imam proclaimed the message of Al-Islam to save his Community and the world. To do so, he had to
stand courageously firm against the dogma of the Nation of Islam. Like King or Mandela, he had been able to
see over the mountain top of obstacles and difficulties, as he moved strategically to evolve his Community
from charismatic leadership and centralized hierarchy to institutional leadership and respect for the group
intellect. He removed the trappings of riches and a so-called royal birthright to stand against even members of
his family to safeguard his community’s moral and material interests.
His religion was Al-Islam; his faith was in G-d and in the nobility of the common man; upon that foundation
he built a new house to replace a fallen temple. The Imam proclaimed One G-d and one humanity, and that
the Final Prophet sent by the Lord of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus is Muhammed to whom the Qur’an was
revealed over 14 centuries ago (Peace and Blessings be upon them all).
Imam Mohammed’s mission and vision, emphasizing religious scholarship, education, economic
development, and the promotion of universal human excellence live on and continue to transpose a legacy of
leadership onto the world stage. (Adapted with permission from FAMACO Publishers)
CWSC & AM360 Founder Imam Thomas Abdul Salaam (R)
“If it is to be…it is up to me” —Imam Thomas Abdul Salaam
Imam Thomas Abdul-Salaam (1953-2015) was a widely respected
pioneer broadcaster and community leader affectionately known as
the Twin Servant of Peace and Mr. AM360. He responded to the
call of Imam Dr. W. Deen Mohammed (1933-2008), who
challenged the Muslim community to open up lines of
communication within its group intellect. Thomas got busy
building an internet radio station in 2010 with the support of his
wife, Dr. A’isha Kareem, and with the hope of connecting Muslim
voices across the U.S.
He undertook a daunting task requiring initial and sustained capital
investment and even greater faith. Placing personal finances at risk
and working literally from sun up to sun down, Thomas steadily
and methodically built a national radio network appealing to an
underserved American Muslim community. He would literally
create the real-time pathways to not only connect an entire
community, but he would indeed give them a national voice and a
way to share ideas and engage in productive dialogue as never
before. He was named to the list of 50 Inspirational Black Muslim
Men.
He was a CWSC co-founder and its first executive director. He was an imam, author, air force veteran, and
pioneering national broadcaster and co-founder of American Muslim 360 Radio. Known also by his moniker, the
Twin Servant of Peace, Thomas was a true visionary and community builder. He helped create the "intellectual
space" for voices in the Muslim community and beyond to share in open and honest dialogue on topics as diverse as
religion and faith to politics and social justice. He garnered the attention of Muslims and non-Muslims alike with
innovative broadcasting designed to educate, inspire and facilitate the aspiration for building model communities.
His efforts led directly to the CWSC’s founding as a manifestation of an intelligentsia first envisioned by Imam
Mohammed.
Today both AM360 and CWSC are firmly established. A CWSC college scholarship is posthumously established in
his honor and each year the CWSC honors him posthumously with an official declaration of August 26 as CWSC
Founder’s Day marked with remembrances, interviews, tributes and other appropriate recognition of the sacrifice
and commitment Thomas demonstrated until his last days of serving Allah (SWT) and his community. His motto of
“If it is to be, it’s up to me” has now brought us to the bigger community vision of “If it is be, it’s up to we.”
The Twin Servant was blessed to make connections from the wisdom of Imam Dr. W. Deen Mohammed (R) and he
peered into the future to make one of the greatest connections our Community has ever benefited from…he
connected us by integrating the vision of a national working intelligentsia with a powerful broadcasting medium…he
sought to give all of us a voice to become a sounding and working group intellect within the respectful framework of
Shuraa Baynahum.
With Allah’s Name, The Merciful Benefactor, The Merciful Redeemer
“…Work to build a better place for [ourselves], one that will benefit all people, regardless of race or religion.”

Dear American Muslim 360 Team Member: As Salaam Alaikum!
On behalf of Community Wide Shuraa Conference™ (CWSC), I am pleased to welcome you to Atlanta
and to the American Muslim 360® (AM360) Host Education, Development and Team Building Session.
We’ve gathered for a noble purpose: To convene face-to-face as believers from a specialized group
intellect committed to increasing our knowledge, skills, and vision as broadcasters, engineers, and staff
in helping improve our service to communities na tionwide via the AM360 intelligentsia.
Never in the history of the world has the human intellect and voice been so transportative. We’re living
in a time when the technology that Allah (SWT) has blessed us with creates unprecedented
opportunities to bring our group intellect together and in an electronic town hall that brings us into
conversation not only with one another, but with the world—in real-time, instantly, and that further
provides a historical archive (podcast) able to be accessed in the future by anyone on earth with an
internet connection or phone. Such ability is a tremendous blessing and simultaneous responsibility that
demands our utmost striving and commitment to continuous improvement including a willingness to
expand our personal and group vision of the possibilities to remake the world.
Yet as the great 20th century liberator Mahatma Ghandi (R) reminds us, “As human beings, our
greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world as in being able to remake ourselves.” Our
Imam gave us a mission to “remake the world” and said “words make people.” Both leaders are saying
the same, for Imam Mohammed (R) demonstrated we had to first remake ourselves with the Qur’an and
Life Example of the Prophet (S) to become the global Muslim citizens and community we are today—
deserving now of a great honor by Allah’s Will to speak from a global platform on Al-Islam in America
and the world. Mere chance has not brought us to this point…“To each is a goal to which Allah turns
him; then strive together as in a race towards all that is good. Wherever you are, Allah will bring you
together. For He has power over all things.” (Al-Qur’an, 2:148)
So this weekend, we ask Allah’s (SWT) Blessings on our broadcasting network, upon our mission, and
upon each one of us individually and collectively that He will make us worthy of AM360 and help us
fulfill the charge we’ve been given to continue creating that noble place where our intellects are
respected and our voices protected. Thank you to all who have made this day possible.
May Allah bless us with a successful Session.
As-Salaam-Alaikum

From: Dr. A’isha Kareem, CEO Emeritus, American Muslim 360
To: Atlanta Host Session Attendees
Re: American Muslim 360 Atlanta Host Education, Development and Team Building Session
Dear Believers: As-Salaam-Alaikum!
As CWSC American Muslim 360 CEO Emeritus, I greatly appreciate your attendance at the Atlanta AM 360 Host Education,
Development and Team Building Session. Regrettably I’m unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict. However, I’m very
much inspired by our very first AM360 in-person team training Session. May Allah (SWT) be pleased and reward each of
you, including our Ad hoc Planning Team,
Presenters, and all attending this historic event.
Without doubt, the objectives of this Session are weighty and it will require all to undertake the principles of Shuraa
Baynahum or respectful mutual consultation to bring out the best from the diverse human resources, knowledge and
experience that has been assembled.
It was nearly five years ago, almost to this same month that we assembled in St. Louis for the very first National Town Hall.
We were a baby organization then. And while we knew we were on a noble mission, we could not foresee the great blessings
that lie ahead for us and the entire community. In hindsight, it was our love for one another and the work in service to Allah
(SWT) and the believers that drove us then—and it’s what drives us now. And by Allah (SWT), look how far we’ve come and
in such a short time.
I ask that you keep the same or greater faith, focus, and love for one another and the work now, as you follow in the footsteps
of the great St. Louis Town Hall that set us on a firm path of progress we can be proud of today.
I fully recognize the patience, stick-to-it-ness, and focused management it will take to meet the Session’s objectives. Insha
Allah, like those before you, your efforts will serve to bring AM360 to a new level of eminence and give our shared freedom
space an even brighter future ‘where all our intellects are respected and our voices protected.’
Don’t forget to take history-making notes and photos to fully capture this epoch-making event for the #1 Islamic radio station
in the nation. And Insha Allah in the coming years you’ll be able to look back, like your predecessors of St. Louis and
Fayetteville and say, “Praise be to Allah!…It’s true—Together We Can Remake the World!”
May Allah bless all with a safe journey…His Peace Be Upon You.
As-Salaam-Alaikum.
A’isha Kareem, Ph.D.

Celebrating 10 years and 600,000 + listen level and counting!

“…Work to build a better place for [ourselves], one that will benefit all people, regardless of race or religion.”
—Imam W. Deen Mohammed (R)
Dear Fellow Believer: As Salaam Alaikum (His Peace be with you).
We’re happy to share with you a bit about our national nonprofit, the Community Wide Shuraa
Conference, Inc. (CWSC). Much more is available online at cwsc.us. And now, how we
began…
Beginning in 1999, American Muslim leader the late Imam Dr. Warith Deen Mohammed (R)
sought to inspire his national association by proposing that our American Muslim Community
needed a studious group of persons or an “intelligentsia” studying our history and circumstances
and envisioning a brighter future for succeeding generations to live better in America.
The Imam also said “leadership is in the resourceful people who represent the productive life of
society,” and that includes everyone committed to working for and supporting model
community excellence. He went on to say that a national intelligentsia or think tank of skilled
believers could help serve as a clearing house for new ideas, problem solving and discovery of
new opportunities to help the entire American Muslim Community, America and the world.
In fulfillment of the Imam’s proposition, an important and pioneering non-CWSC national effort
was made in North Carolina in 1999 demonstrating a strong desire and capability for individuals
to work together in helping to fulfill the model community vision. Then in 2009, a little known
radio station called American Muslim 360® AM360.org emerged on the scene of community
dialogue. The brainchild of Dr. Aisha Kareem and the late Imam Thomas Abdul-Salaam,
AM360 grew into a powerful network of voices making it the #1 Islamic radio station in the
nation and garnering recognition as a major media influencer in Muslim America.
In 2013, in response to a groundswell of AM360 grass roots support urging the Muslim
community to complement words with action and to help move a critical mass from ideas to
reality, Thomas and Aisha helped found the Community Wide Shuraa Conference; and so began
one of the largest community service projects ever undertaken in the American Muslim
community--to build a national intelligentsia upon the principles of Shuraa Baynahum or faith-
based mutual and respectful consultation with an engaged national group intellect committed to
action.
Updated with advanced concepts and new technologies, CWSC has brought the intelligentsia
model to a new level of operational excellence. The incorporation of a Model Communities
National Resource Directory (MCNRD) is a powerful addition to the intelligentsia model Imam
Mohammed envisioned. MCNRD envisions critical cataloging of resources and leverages our
ability to help institutions and communities tap into a national group intellect.
In August 2014, CWSC held its second conference and first Town Hall in St. Louis, Missouri.
Thomas was selected as CWSC’s executive director. Then in November of 2014, CWSC,
AM360 and our entire Community were stunned when Thomas announced he was in the last
stages of terminal cancer with only months to live.

As his health worsened, he appointed veteran broadcaster and A New Day for Al-Islam’s host, William Kareem, to the
executive producer’s chair. Thomas then stepped away from daily on-air hosting to spend his final days with family while
continuing to prepare both AM360 and CWSC for transition.
Thomas made another remarkable announcement: he was transferring AM360 as a public service institution to the care
and management of CWSC. His trust was not only a great act of faith, but also part of a powerful vision to complement
CWSC’s intelligentsia efforts with a national broadcasting arm…a combination designed to help us remake the world. On
March 2, 2015, our Brother Thomas passed away.
Despite our tremendous loss and without missing a beat, the CWSC elected FAMACO Publishers’ vice president Mukhtar
Muhammad as its executive director. Mukhtar is a principal designer of the CWSC model and previously served as
corporate secretary and strategic planning & development director; under his leadership, CWSC has expanded services to
include a national speakers bureau, college scholarship and history preservation program, national think tank, speakers
bureau, the CWSC On-Air Roundtable, online store, Town Hall, and an online national resource directory connecting us
to a nationwide volunteer network. CWSC has coordinated two delegations to Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers on
mass gun violence and reform and we’re also now a United Nations non-governmental organization partner publishing
papers at the highest level of Shuraa!
Since those early days of 2013, great progress has been made such that today the CWSC is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, non-
partisan faith based national conference, with a comprehensive electronic and social media footprint combined with a
volunteer human resource network spanning the country and committed to strengthening model community life.
And AM360 has not only honored its excellent broadcasting tradition, but continues to expand its diversity of hosts and
content with 24-hour programming that includes CAIR, the nation’s largest civil rights and advocacy organization for
American Muslims. Formerly under the exceptional guidance of CEO Emeritus Dr. Aisha Kareem, and now with the
leadership of AM360 Acting CEO Latifah Hameen and Programming Manager M. Nailah Abdullah, AM360 passed the
600K listen level and is positioned for continued growth.
We’re proud of our accomplishments and eager each day to continue moving the ball forward and implementing plans for
an office of international relations and expansion of faith-based collaboratives. You’re invited as part of our ever
expanding interfaith group intellect to join in this noble effort of helping advance model community life and to help
remake the world into a better place for all!
Visit us soon and tune in day or night for our round-the-clock live and podcast programming at AM360.org or dial (701)
719-4197 to join the conversation and tell us what you think.
Thank you for taking the time to let us share CWSC…together we can remake the world.
Yours in service,
As-Salaamu-Alaikum.

A’isha Kareem is CEO Emeritus of American Muslim 360® Radio, a retired prison services chaplain (California State Corrections), and a lifelong social justice educator who has focused on equity for racially and socially marginalized students. In 1985, Dr. Kareem founded and directed the Academy for Human Development, a youth empowerment organization, which earned her a visit from three-time World Champion, Muhammad Ali. After some time, Dr. Kareem felt compelled to enter the State Department of Corrections to aid in the rehabilitation of many of her students’ mothers and fathers, who themselves were caught up in the prison pipeline as victims of mass incarceration. Nearly a decade later and during the month of Ramadan 2009, she, along side of her late husband, Thomas Abdul Salaam, affectionately called “The Twin Servant of Peace,” launched a broadcasting network, the American Muslim (AM) 360 Blog Talk Radio. Through the use of internet technology, American Muslim community voices were synergized to
communicate on issues of faith, race, and culture and other broader domestic and international affairs. AM360 became a town hall for interfaith dialogue and collaboration to address Islamophobia and religious violence and extremism. From these crossroads, AM 360 has achieved remarkable popularity to become the #1 Islamic blogtalk station in the nation. In 2013, in response to a groundswell of AM360 grass roots support urging the Muslim community to complement dialogue with action and to help move a critical mass from ideas to reality, Dr. Kareem, helped found the Community Wide Shuraa Conference (CWSC) and so began one of the largest community service projects ever undertaken in the American Muslim community--to build a national intelligentsia upon the principles of Shuraa Baynahum or faith-based mutual and respectful consultation with an engaged national group intellect committed to action. Dr. Kareem has served as adjunct professor at the University of the Pacific introducing the specialized curriculum, "Islam as a Social Remedy." She also commits significant time as CEO for American Muslim 360 and advisor for the Community Wide Shuraa Conference (CWSC). She is also a CWSC representative via the United Nations as a member of the non-governmental organization, The Grail, which focuses on the status of women. Dr. A’isha Kareem became Hajjah in 2003 with her journey to Mecca. Dr. Kareem via the Academy for Human Development addressed the school-to-prison pipeline of boys of color disproportionately affected by incarcerated parents and the 'War on Drugs.' Through her chaplaincy, she aids parents in discovering the critical role of spirituality in rearing and mentoring responsible youth. She was honored for her contributions when the local Muslim community created her namesake with its institutional naming of Masjid Al-Kareemah (Community of the Generous). A published writer and playwright,* Dr. Kareem penned "What's That On Your Head?," a commentary on Muslim women’s dress and work experience, appearing in the book Nine to Five: Muslims in the Western Workplace. She is the recipient of several academic credentials and awards including the Morrie Turner Soul Corner Role Model Award and Valley Woman In History Award.
