Famous Quotes

To make our way, we must have firm resolve, persistence, tenacity. We must gear ourselves to work hard all the way. We can never let up. –Ralph Bunche : http://www.azquotes.com/quote/41075 .

Peace is no mere matter of men fighting or not fighting. Peace, to have meaning for many who have known only suffering in both peace and war, must be translated into bread or rice, shelter, health, and education, as well as freedom and human dignity - a steadily better life. If peace is to be secure, long-suffering and long-starved, forgotten peoples of the world, the underprivileged and the undernourished, must begin to realize without delay the promise of a new day and a new life. –Ralph Bunche http://www.azquotes.com/quote/548302

The well-being and the hopes of the peoples of the world

can never be served until peace - as well as freedom,

honor and self-respect - is secure.—Ralph Bunche : http://

laureates/1950/bunche-bio.html#.V0vWlDhEWDU.email

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do. --Eleanor Roosevelt

Friendship with oneself is all-important, because without it one cannot be friends with anyone else in the world. -Eleanor Roosevelt

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

It is not fair to ask of others what you are unwilling to do

yourself. -Eleanor Roosevelt

To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.

Overview

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. It is currently made up of 193 Member States. The mission and work of the United Nations are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.

Member States Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations is a member of the General Assembly. States are admitted to membership in the UN by a decision of the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council Leadership The Secretary-General of the United Nations is a symbol of the Organization's ideals and a spokesman for the interests of the world's peoples, in particular the poor and vulnerable. The current Secretary-General of the UN, and the eighth occupant of the post, is Mr. Ban Ki-moon of the Republic of Korea, who took office on 1 January 2007. The UN Charter describes the Secretary-General as "chief administrative officer" of the Organization.
