    Qualified retirement plansRetirement plans that meet certain requirements undersection 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code are consideredqualified retirement plans.

    Employer contributions are tax-deductible and may besubject to vesting schedules.

    Participant contributions are always immediately vested. Contributions (employer and participant) and earnings are

    tax-deferred until theyre withdrawn. However, if the plan

    offers a Roth option, employees Roth contributions aretaxed upfront; these contributions grow tax-deferred and aretax and penalty free when taken in a qualified withdrawal.
