TECHNOLOGY

“ American Eagle’s XP Technology instruments earn

DPS “BEST PRODUCT” rating! These results do not surprise me at all. In the last 12 -15  months, I have become a huge AE XP Technology fan. I can’t go back!

– Lory Laughter, RDH

To learn more about XP Technology please see page 6.

“I am thoroughly impressed with XP Technology by American Eagle. They are way more efficient than other instruments due to not having to sharpen during a procedure and they have continued to remain sharp after many uses! They are a perfect combination of ergonomics and time savers when it comes to instrumentation. I highly recommend them to all hygienists and I look forward to having them in my cassettes!”

– Renee Mathews, RDH

“The XP instruments are absolutely the best instruments I’ve ever used. Everything—from the light weight, non-slip handle to the sharpest blade I’ve ever come across—made the appointment with my patient faster and more efficient. The XP instruments removed even the smallest pieces of plaque from hard-to-reach areas on the teeth, so I have no doubt I was providing the highest quality of instrumentation for my patient.”

– Julie Seager, RDH, BSDH

“I am very impressed with XP Technology. I scale with a very light hand and have been doing so for 35 years. The XP lets me clean the root surfaces with a gentle touch and with more accuracy. My hands are strong but I appreciate how much easier it is to remove calculus. The Double Gracey saves time. My patients are very pleased with their hygiene appointments. They tell me how they have no sensitivity after their cleaning. This is huge! I love the American Eagle instruments.”

– Joanne Schmidt, RDH

The XP instruments I am using months later are still sharp! I use them 3-5 times a day and

soon each of my cassettes will be filled with XP instruments!

– Liz Nies, RDH-EA, AS, HygieneFusion coach

A lthough American Eagle InstrumentsSM (AEI) opened its business doors in 1992, our history began in 1948 with the start of American Dental Manufacturing, a family-founded dental hand instrument company that made its mark by providing high quality, durable instruments to the dental profession. Through hard work, determination, and Montana pride, the company became a well known and respected manufacturer within the dental industry. The company grew to about 75 employees, many of whom forged careers to become some of the dental industry’s best journeymen instrument makers and sharpeners. American Dental was “the” quality dental instrument company.

In 1989, a competitor purchased American Dental Manufacturing and subsequently closed its doors in 1990. Rather than follow the buy-out company, a small group of tenacious and persevering crafts people joined forces in 1992 to form American Eagle Instruments. With engineering experience, unequaled skill, a goal to produce the highest quality dental instruments, and a “lead-not-follow” philosophy, American Eagle Instruments became reality.

Today, American Eagle Instruments has evolved to become the second largest manufacturer of dental hand instruments in North America. Based in Missoula, Montana, and employing approximately 70 crafts people, AEI remains an employee-owned company. We pride ourselves on providing the world’s finest quality dental hand instruments. Our focus remains on progressive, innovative dental products which allow the practitioner more efficient processes with added ergonomic comfort.

AEI offers comprehensive lines of dental products designed for the forward thinking dental professional. Our product lines include diagnostic, curettes, scalers, titanium implant instruments, composites, restorative, cone socket instruments, and magnetostrictive ultrasonic inserts. AEI’s latest innovation is the unique Double Gracey™ instruments. Additionally, AEI provides associated dental products which include cassettes, sharpening systems, handpiece lubricants, and endodontic instruments.

The Double Gracey instruments are two instruments combined in one. The face of Double Graceys are raised, creating two slightly sloped faces, approximately 110 degrees, measured from the terminal (lower) shank. This allows the operator to follow the Gracey technique, but with the economy of using universal curettes.

American Eagle Instruments also offers state-of-the-art surface engineering technology, featuring the XPSM line of instruments. Our XP Technology instruments are fabricated using a patented surface engineering process that results in razor-sharp edges that start sharp and stay sharp longer than any carbon or stainless steel instruments available. XP Technology reflects the latest innovation in dental hand instruments - providing you with instruments that require NO SHARPENING!

From product development to manufacturing, AEI employee-owners take extreme pride in their craftsmanship abilities. The AEI team possesses years of hands-on experience in the development and fabrication of dental instruments. We manufacture the highest quality instruments and hold ourselves to the highest standards. American Eagle Instruments offers our customers state-of-the-art dental products while still being progressive with the latest trends and requirements within the industry. We know our customers expect nothing less from a company that delivers “Better Dentistry by DesignSM”.

Goal• To be the market leader in manufacturing the world’s finest dental instruments.

NO MORE SHARPENINGXP Technology is a patented surface engineering process. This technology is a proprietary process in which the metallurgical composition of the instrument’s surface is enhanced, giving it the properties of a much more durable material. This process allows us to put a much sharper edge onto a thinner blade, eliminating the time-consuming and imperfect process of sharpening your instruments.

Holding tHe instrument benefits

guidelines:+

+

+

+

Barely hold the instrument using a light, “exploratory scaling” touch.

+ A lighter touch aids in ergonomic hand protection and minimizes the risk of wrist/hand problems

+ A lighter touch increases instrument longevity

+ Less likely to burnish calculus with an always-sharp blade

+ Saves time

+ Enhances patient comfort

+ Decreases scaling noise for auditory comfort

+ Less lateral pressure for scaling efficacy

Shave through calculus using a few light strokes; do not fracture off calculus.

XP instruments are designed for fine subgingival scaling and root planing. Avoid using them on margins and overhangs.

You don’t need to change the way you scale or root plane; simply use less force and a lighter grip.

Due to a thinner blade design, we do not recommend that you re-sharpen your XP instruments.

With proper use and maintenance, you can expect your XP instruments to last as long as your stainless steel instruments, without needing to re-sharpen.

The perfect combination of the Double Gracey™ Design coupled with the XPSM

Technology make the American Eagle curettes a touch above any competition. I cannot at all imagine using any other curette after having had my hands wet with the Double Gracey. I also have to mention the very original Explorer and Perio probecombination instrument. It has become an invaluable companion during the initialexamination of any and every patient that I consult.

- Dr. Ajay Kakar, President Elect - International Academy of Periodontology President – Indian Academy of Aesthetic & Cosmetic Dentistry

Clinical Associate Professor – Stony Brook School of Dentistry, USA

“Micro dentistry needs special skills and special instruments. The AE C1 TNZ that I systematically use, fulfills the requirements of the current situation and the instrument offers a number of supplementary capabilites that could prove useful throughout.”

- Dr. Raffi Chirvanian, Restorative and Cosmetic DentistryRoyal Clinics of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Saudi Arabia

“I am a big fan of American Eagle Instruments. I use every day your instrument so I write to say thank you and keep being the best. I used since I was in the university and I will never change for anyone.”

- Martin Carriño, Buenos Aires

The discovery of American Eagle’s XP Technology, 2 years ago, has revolutionized my daily working life. No longer am I spending time sharpening instruments or if no time using sub-standard instruments on my patients. The thing that struck me immedi-ately on handling the instruments was how feather light they are, with a really solid

grip but most of all their razor sharp tips and for how long they remain sharp.

Truly a double Gracey design, these instruments combine the best features of Gracey and Universal curettes. Double Gracey instruments have rounded toes and two (2) cutting edges. Advantages of using Double Graceys include easy adaptation to mesial and distal surfaces, as well as buccal and lingual surfaces, without switching or repositioning the instrument. The Mini versions allow easier access into deeper pockets, tighter interproximal areas, and furcations. All Double Gracey instruments are sharpen-free with American Eagle Instruments’ patented XPSM Technology.

I used to use other brands but I felt that I had to sharpen them more often. I tried American Eagle’s Talon Tough and was amazed at the quality. Talon Tough starts sharp and stays just as sharp through repeated uses; they are strong, sharp, and light-weight instruments. I love them.

The M23 Thin allows for superior adaptation and accessibility up to the contacts on all anterior teeth. It enhances time management by allowing the operator to expedite scaling during a full mouth prophylaxis. As well as performing well on anterior teeth, the M23 Thin also has excellent adaptation to mesial and distal line angles of all posterior teeth.

Designed for the hygienist who needs speed and perfection in those difficult anterior areas. The spoon is ideal for maxillary anterior cingulums with very difficult stain and calculus. It easily removes lower anterior lingual layers of calculus without the worry of snagging the thin lingual tissue. AEI’s patented sharpen-free XPSM Technology maintains the factory shape throughout the life of the instrument.

I personally love the N1 from American Eagle. On patients, the N1 quickly removes the stain and thin calculus in the deep maxillary anterior cingulums. In the lower anterior areas where there is fine calculus at the CEJ, I can gently push the tissue back and remove the deposits without worry of snagging the tissue. Add the XP Technology,

I don’t have to worry about sharpening. It is definitely my “go to” instrument!

G O L D E N E A G L E K I T E a g l e C l aw ™ & E a g l e Ta l o n ™

The universal scaler set—a combination of the Talon for anterior and the Claw for posterior.

Eagle Talon™ is a combination of two already popular anterior tips: the Jacquette 3 and the Nebraska 128.

Eagle Claw™ is the ideal universal posterior scaler with a classic design for tight, interproximal areas.

Sharpen-free XPSM instruments keep their shape throughout the useful life of the instrument.

The classic molar-mesial and molar-distal Graceys.

XP means No Sharpening – these are the first Graceys that retain their original shape.

Slim design – ideal for heavy calculus and for tight interproximal areas of recall patients.

Available in EagleLite® resin or stainless – large handles and the lightest on the market.

2 Curalers – a logical combination of a universal curette and a universal scaler.

The ideal instrument for small scaling procedures.

One instrument for both supra and sub-gingival scaling.

XP instruments don’t require sharpening for the useful life of the instrument.

Dr. Jackson’s instrument series is designed specially for posterior composite placement. The rounded-end pluggers with thin opposing blades are for rapid packing, pressing and shaping. The unique RJ 3 instrument offers two short, very thin blades that allow for precise final occlusal contouring, while the G4-5 provides offset blades for final sculpting of the proximal and occlusal areas. All are surface engineered with AEI’s patented XP Technology, providing composite instruments with a superior smooth surface.

XP Technology is a patented surface engineering process. This technology is a proprietary process in which the metallurgical composition of the instrument’s surface is enhanced, giving it the properties of a much more durable material. This patented process allows us to create a super smooth surface, offering composite instruments with properties that boast no sticking or pull back.

I don’t think there are better composite instruments in the marketplace. The new XP instruments by American Eagle have taken it to a new level.

1. Using the 10x magnification loupe, inspect cutting edges for defects.

2. Pick your method, sharpen your instrument, and test (using the test stick).

3. Inspect again by using the magnification loupe for proper angle, edge contour, and sharpness

(a sharp edge will not reflect light).4. Repeat steps 2 and 3. Make adjustments as

needed until the desired edge is achieved.5. Always check your instruments to maintain

sharpness. We recommend a new instrument be kept for comparison.

METHOD 1

METHOD 2

The edge is visible while the stone is moved at the correct angulation, producing a sharp edge.

This method creates less clinician fatigue. However, maintaining the correct angle on the lateral edge may be more difficult, due to the inability to physically see the edge while moving the instrument.

To maintain optimal cutting edges on your instruments, AEI recommends routine sharpness testing by use of a test stick.

To test for sharpness, simply stroke the test stick as you would during use. If the instrument “grabs” it is sharp; if it does not it should be resharpened or discarded.

We do not recommend sharpening XPSM Technology instruments. Simply discard and replace.

SIMPLY SHARP KIT AE SA CC/FK

Re-sharpening dental instruments can be inconvenient, tedious and challenging. However, it is important to maintain sharp edges on your curettes and scalers. Our Simply Sharp Kit is designed with your convenience in mind. The double-sided stone offers you the choice of an extra-fine surface on one side and coarse grit on the other. The kit also includes a powerful 10x loupe for examining your edges. A sharpening test stick is included to conveniently test the cutting edge.

I have to tell you I am totally in love with these instruments!!! I used the

Scandette and the M23T. Both instruments worked as if they were talking to each other!! If I could feel calculus but couldn’t reach it with one instrument, I certainly picked it up with the other. Both of these instruments are

feather-light; there was zero hand fatigue, AND the patient said he felt no discomfort as I worked. AND no tissue damage. I was in Heaven!!! Thank you, American Eagle!!!

The American Eagle XPSM Scandette™ is the best new universal instrument I have tried in years…

The addition of XP means it never needs sharpening.
