FEBRUARY 2012 Dear Members, The ACHA is off and running on a new point year. We have already experienced good turn outs at our shows and welcome our many new members.
The Board of Directors already has big plans for ACHA Weekend this year. It will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Brenham, TX. The dates are May 18-20, 2012. We will be adding more money this year in both the aged events and the regular classes. As always, we will be awarding great circuit prizes.
It’s time to dust off the saddle, brush your horse’s mane, air up the trailer tires, load up and go cutting. Just a reminder, before you enter a class, be sure you and/or your horse is eligible. The ACHA does count all monies from all cutting horse associations and it is your responsibility to check eligibility. Have a great 2012! Lynn Glover ACHA President

From The ACHA Board of Directors….. Dear Members,
We are sure most, if not all, of you have received your complimentary copy of the December 2011
issue of “The Weekend Cutter”. On page 7 of that issue, Mr. Kenny Emigh, CEO and Publisher of “The
Weekend Cutter” printed some comments that seem to be misleading. Mr. Emigh mentioned that “his
proposal” was voted on and passed by the ACHA Board of Directors last summer. Mr. Emigh’s proposal
was tabled last summer by the ACHA Board of Directors. At the December 2011 ACHA Board of Directors
meeting, the ACHA Board voted to turn down his proposal for the time being. The proposal of $1,500.00
per month for twelve months was considered more than we felt we could spend at the present. While we
could sell ads and obtain sponsorships to offset the cost, we felt that it would put the magazine
sponsorships in competition with the same members/clients/companies from which we seek sponsorships
for our year-end and championships show awards.
Certainly, most if not all, of the ACHA Board of Directors would love to have a slick page magazine
as our voice, but feel this kind of expenditure at this time would not be in the best interest of the ACHA.
We are on much firmer grounds financially than we have been in the last several years, and want to keep
it that way.
The ACHA Board of Directors wishes Mr. Emigh and “The Weekend Cutter” the best of luck now and
in the future.

My ACHA Story……by David Wilson Right after Thanksgiving, my wife, Martha and I took two trucks and trailers to Carencro, LA to pick up a couple of loads of hay that we
had purchased from Carroll Clavelle, one of our fellow ACHA members. When we arrived, Carroll, and Ronald Roy, another ACHA cutter, helped
load our trailers. Everything was going quite well. We strapped our rolls of hay down and started out of the hay field. There were two mud
puddles in the hay field; I went to the right of them. I should have gone to the left of them. When I went over the culvert onto the public road, I
dropped the right wheels of the trailer into the very deep ditch.
Carroll and Ronald got into action trying to pull me out. Before I knew it, Don Clark, another ACHA cutter, arrived and began to help.
A neighbor who had a big truck with a winch on the back of it joined in and started trying to pull me out of the ditch. Oh, by the way, I was
blocking a very busy road. A deputy sheriff arrived to see what was going on. I introduced myself to him and he told me his name was Don
Menard*. He advised me that he was not going to issue me a ticket and was just going to call it an accident.
The winching didn’t work, so Carroll, Ronald Roy and Don Clark finally had to unload all thirty rolls of hay, and you can imagine how
long that took. With the trailer empty, I was able to get out of the ditch, but some damage had been done to the gooseneck hookup. We left
the truck and trailer with our ACHA friends who called another ACHA cutter, Ted Gardemal. He lives a few miles away and is a great welder and
fabricator. Ted came and got the truck, repaired and strengthened the hitch past the original condition and replaced the gooseneck attachment
on the trailer that had got bent in the winching. While I offered to pay Carroll, Ronald, Don and the winch truck man, not a one of them would
accept a penny. I rode back to Livingston with Martha with my tail between my legs for the damage I had done. Martha went back a few days
later by herself (I had a “paying” job) and picked up another load.
We went back a week or so later, loaded up the truck and trailer Martha was driving along with the repaired truck and trailer. This
trip, Carroll Clavelle was operating one tractor and Patrick Oliver (pronounced Oliviaaa in South LA) who is a cutter with that other association,
operating another tractor. After they loaded the trailers, we headed home. I went out the other exit to the hay field this time, swung WAY out
and made it this time successfully. Martha got out of the hayfield three times successfully to my one. However, I don’t think it is a clear
indicator of my driving abilities.
I just wanted to share this story to thank my ACHA friends for their help, but to also share with others what a great family we are.
*Scurdy Menard, an ACHA member and client of Bob Bouget, ACHA member, says he doesn’t know if Don Menard, the deputy sheriff, is related
to him. Don Menard was such a nice guy; however, I think we should claim him as a distant cousin of Scurdy.

LONNY MORRIS – MANY TIMES A CHAMPION One of our very own board members at the ACHA is a very talented, multiple champion cutter, who likes to call the ACHA “family”. Lonny Morris loves showing with ACHA. Lonny says “it’s like being with family. We have our ups and downs like family but we have fun and stick together.” Lonny competed in High School Rodeo as a youth but long before becoming an adult, he “hung out” his shingle and began training horses for the public. Although his love is for cutting, he has also trained horses for western pleasure and reining, plus, started many colts. He has trained many champion horses and non pros along the way before calling the ACHA home. Lonny has had several great years with the ACHA! He has been the Open Rider of the Year twice and has trained/shown the ACHA Horse of the Year on two different occasions. In 2008, he was a Triple Crown winner, winning the Open, 10,000 Novice Horse and 3,000 Novice Horse divisions. In 2010, Lonny and his Non Pro customers took home a total of 16 buckles at the Year-end Awards Banquet. Lonny is present at almost every cutting and is there to help from start to finish. He said, “I love nothing more than taking an older horse, tuning him up for myself or my customer and going to a cutting on the weekends.”
