Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS) has become the first organ-isation across the world to achieve the ‘network accreditation’ from

the Joint Commission International (JCI). The accreditation, which was hitherto

granted to individual healthcare facilities, is now offered to healthcare networks. The first-of-its-kind endorsement was achieved for AHS’ compliance with JCI Ambulatory Standards (April 2010 edition) across 20 of its healthcare centers, five disease preven-tion and screening centers and three mobile clinic solutions.

"This is in keeping with our mission to continually improve customer care to recog-nised international standards in line with our vision to provide world-class healthcare to our customers and communities. We are very proud of this accomplishment and would like to congratulate our employees at AHS whose hard work and dedication to excellence helped achieve this honour," commented Saif Bader Al Qubaisi, MD and Chairman, SEHA, adding that one of their goals is to have all facilities under SEHA's umbrella earn this distinguished seal of accomplishment.

The accreditation process, which was completed over a period of two weeks re-quired 18 months of preparation and focused on the assessment of key service areas ac-cording to JCI standards. In addition to en-tailing personnel training, review of policies and procedures, the process included the development of key teams in each of the network divisions and the AHS headquar-ters. AHS facilities were also assessed through a mock survey implemented by JCI consultants from the US.

Rashid Saif Al Qubaisi, CEO, AHS, said, “AHS has come a long way in ensuring opti-mum ambulatory services in line with glob-al best practices. A historic achievement for both AHS and the UAE, the JCI accreditation reflects the UAE leadership’s vision to pro-vide quality, world-class healthcare to the community in Abu Dhabi. This achievement represents a dramatic turning point and is the most important initiative undertaken by the AHS since becoming a part of the Abu Dhabi Company for Health Services (SEHA) almost four years ago.”

Al Qubaisi added that Abu Dhabi is wit-nessing significant shifts in various eco-nomic and social sectors, guided by the vi-sion of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Su-preme Commander of the UAE Armed Forc-es. The strategy has helped make Abu Dhabi the focus of major international institutions and global media.

The international arm of the independent, non-profit organisation, The Joint Commis-

sion (TJC), JCI was established in 1994 to assist international healthcare organisations, public health agencies, ministries and others to improve the quality and safety of patient care in more than 80 countries. JCI has been accrediting health care organisations since 1999, and has certified approximately 450 public and private healthcare organizations in 50 countries.

In June 2011, JCI received a four-year ac-creditation by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). Accreditation by ISQua provides assurance that the stan-dards, training and processes used by JCI to survey the performance of healthcare or-ganisations meet the highest international benchmarks for accreditation entities.

AHS is a unique outpatient care concept from SEHA that aims to offer easy access to primary and specialist patient care, includ-ing comprehensive laboratory and modern diagnostic facilities. Established in 1963 in Kuwait, Tan-zifco is a strong regional player in the soft services industry serving valuable customers such as Ambu-

latory Healthcare Services (AHS) – SEHA. Tanzifco started the contract for cleaning services with SEHA in May 2012.

“We highly value our association with SEHA and based on our 50 years of experi-ence, we understand the service require-ments of the healthcare sector. It was a mo-ment of pride for us as well when

Ambulatory Healthcare Services met the JCI inspection criteria effectively. In fact, AHS is the first organisation in the world to achieve the JCI network accreditation. We congratulate them once again and renew our commitment to serving our clients with ex-cellence,” said Mustapha Alayan, Chairman, Tanzifco.

The JCI Inspection was conducted in the third week of May 2012. It was a challenge for Tanzifco to prepare in three weeks the mobilisation of manpower and resources as well as pass the JCI Inspection. The team-work between AHS and Tanzifco helped meet the standards and achieve the JCI ac-creditation successfully.

The Tanzifco Group specialises in provid-ing proficient soft services to airports, hos-pitals, ministries and a cross-section of cli-ents across the Gulf with its BICSc certified Tanzifco Cleaning Academy.

Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS) has formed a strategic alli-ance with the British Medical Journal (BMJ) to organize a one-

day conference addressing specific issues relating to Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs).

In a conference held last year in Novem-ber, Rashid Saif Al Qubaisi, Chief Executive Officer, AHS, said: “It gives us great plea-sure to organize the second international conference sponsored by AHS on muscu-loskeletal medicine in collaboration with BMJ. This conference gave clinicians an update on the management of key muscu-loskeletal conditions in primary care and the latest evidence in musculoskeletal medicine.”

Dr Omar Al Jabri, Chief Medical Officer, AHS, commented: "Musculoskeletal issues are very common but least covered during our professional development. High qual-ity training and professional development for all our staff, is a key strategic aim of the AHS. Partnering with a renowned medical organization such as the BMJ, will help the AHS achieve its objectives."

Dr Latifa Al Ketbi, Head of CPD Commit-tee at AHS, added: “Expert speakers led symptom and case-based sessions, which aimed to increase doctors’ awareness of red flags, conditions that are easy to miss and can lead to possible complications.” Speak-ers provided plenty of practical tips, includ-

ing live demonstrations of examination techniques, and advice on referral and how to make it work within their multidisci-plinary team and interact and learn best practice from the leading experts.

Dr Elspeth Wise, who was recently awarded an MD for research focused on GP registrars' musculoskeletal education, chaired the event and addressed the issue of shoulder pain.

Prof Martin Underwood, head of the divi-sion of health services at Warwick Medical School, presented a session about back and neck pain featuring 'what not to miss'.

Dr Richard Smith, a consultant in rheu-matology and musculoskeletal medicine at Salisbury Hospital and a tutor at the British Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine, dis-cussed the management of patients with hip and knee pain.

The course offers a wide range of topics including elbow and hand complaints, fo-cusing on arthritis, pain in the hip, knee, multiple joints, back, and shoulder, as well as sports injuries and learning bites on gout, osteoporosis and joint injections and the most common problems encountered in everyday clinical practice.

Dr Christine Bowen, BMJ Masterclass, remarked, "The key messages that were communicated at the masterclass were how to clinically examine, diagnose and treat, exercise tips and lifestyle changes. Also how to prevent or minimize the debilitating effects of MSD, highlighting the fact that preventative measures are cost-effective and the benefits of recognizing typical symptoms early."

The conference attracted more than 300 delegates from the UAE and the region. The target audience included clinicians at all levels, including those with an interest in musculoskeletal medicine.

the center has moved from ghayathi hospital to a new dedicated facility in the al dhafra Club in ghayathi.

Commenting on the event, rashid saif al Qubaisi said: “the relocation of the dPsC to a dedicated facility in ghayathi is a step towards achieving our goal of providing the Uae nationals and residents in abu dhabi with an easy access to the highest quality ambulatory healthcare services and facilitating customer access to our services.”

Mohamed hassan al Zaabi, Chief Facilities officer, added: “the new location offers improved facilities designed with the customer’s comfort and privacy in mind. Particularly catering to female customers, the center features a dedicated women’s waiting area, which was not available in the old location, to ensure their utmost comfort and satisfaction. in addition, the current facility provides all services in one location, thus saving customers the need to travel between buildings.”

the new facility features three doctor consultation rooms — two male and one female; three blood collection rooms — two male and one female; one room each for male and female vaccination and x-ray facilities using advanced picture archiving and communication service (PaCs) for quality and efficient radiology reporting.

Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS) hosted the 'Hot Topics' GP Update Course for the first time in the Middle East in November

last year to facilitate busy working general practitioners (GPs) to discuss common challenges, issues and opportunities across general practice.

Rashid Saif Al Qubaisi, AHS Chief Execu-tive Officer, commented: “We, at AHS, are delighted to be the first in the Middle East to host this highly acclaimed conference. The course reflects our continuous efforts towards improving quality, safety practices, effectiveness and efficiency of GPs by pro-viding them an opportunity to stay up to date with the latest developments.”

Participants were offered an overview of the recent developments in international literature relevant to family physicians, and discussed therapeutic controversies, impli-cations for clinical practice and ideas to encourage changes in practice and improve the level of GP education and support in their particular area.

The course offered GPs insights on a wide range of topics including cardiovascular

medicine, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, mental health, women’s health, paediat-rics, men’s health, gastroenterology, chest medicine, musculoskeletal medicine, GP infectious disease and the most common problems encountered in everyday clinical practice.

Lectures were given by eminent interna-tional speaker and expert, Dr Simon Curtis, Medical Director NB Medical Education. A member of the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of General Practitioners, he is a tutor in Primary Care at Oxford Uni-versity, UK.

The one-day course on the current ‘Hot Topics’ in general practice is being run by NB Medical Education for 14 years at mul-tiple venues around the UK and Ireland.

The course aims to update, refresh and help GPs and family physicians create a platform from which they can build their learning portfolio for revalidation. The course is prepared and presented by fellow GPs and gives a digest of the recent litera-ture based on what GPs need to know in the reality of daily general practice.

Dr Omar Al Jaberi, Chief Medical Officer at AHS, added: “We are committed to help-ing our primary care physicians to practice evidence-based medicine in an easy and time efficient way to retain and apply. Such an event provides GPs with a rare opportu-nity to explore cutting edge advances in general practice, bringing together experts to share ideas and experiences.”
