Amarillo ISD provides campus based pre-kindergarten for eligible children who are four years old on or before September 1 of the current school year. The program is aligned with K-12 and offered at twenty-nine elementary campuses and Carver Early Childhood Academy.

Building Our Future One Child at a timeHigh-quality early learning experiences prepare children for school and life. All pre-kindergarten teachers hold university degrees and are uniquely trained in child development and early education. Using evidence and best practices, teachers work with parents to make certain young learners are knowledgeable, healthy, engaged, and prepared for success beyond the classroom.

Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum Preparation For school and LifeTeaching and learning methods focus on all aspects of children’s cognitive, social, emotional, language, artistic, and physical development. Texas Pre-kindergarten Guidelines form the instructional foundation and align with K-12 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Curriculum focuses on oral language development, early literacy, early mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, health and safety, social skills, technology, and physical development.

Building Our Future One Child at a timeParents as teachers (Pat), an early education and family support program helps parents give their children the best possible start in life. Educators, trained in early education and child development provide resources for parents beginning with pregnancy or birth until the child enters school.

Parents as teachers Curriculum Preparation For school and LifeThe first years of life are a period of exceptional growth in cognitive, language, motor, emotional, social, and physical development. To build the foundation for success in school and life, parents and educators work together using approaches that help children learn how to learn. Some learning skills are inherent and others are developed through a supportive environment and opportunities. The curriculum supports all aspects of childhood development, all elements of early literacy, the value of interactive play, and facilitates parent-child interaction.
