AMAN NAMA 2017-2018 Dear parents, Welcome to the first edition of this year’s Aman Nama. This year has been filled with action as always. We celebrated Janmashtami with lots of gusto, breaking the Dahi Handi and of course a feast of sweets. Ganesh Chaturthi passed by, leaving sweet memories of modaks in everyone's minds. These were lovingly made by Parent volunteers, teachers and children – a great example of team work. Teacher’s Day also flashed past by …..the teachers being pleased in every possible way and performances by the students. Last year there was a 'Greece' theme at school and this year is an Indian Mythology and Folk Art theme. We have been making Gond and Madhubani paintings in art class and the younger classes created craft artefacts, themed for festivals. Classes 6 and 7 got into business mode, filling bank loan forms and visiting wholesale markets. All this is nothing as compared what more we have been doing these past months, so turn the page to know more. Happy reading !! Editor Falguni Patil 1

  • Krishna Janmashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth

    avatar of Vishnu.

Like previous years, this year also Krishna Janmashtmi was celebrated in AMAN SETU. This year

to celebrate Janmashtmi , we did the Palna Ceremony and Dahi Handi.

    Jhoola(Palna) Ceremony

This ceremony was performed at the Rangmanch with all the teachers and kids.

To Perform the Jhoola ceremony, the Palna for lord Krishna (Bal Gopal /Laddo Gopal) was

decorated with balloons and flowers. A string was attached to the Palna to swing it. Bal Gopal was

placed inside the Palna. Kids brought sweets and snacks for “Bhog”.

Ruchi Didi and Anjali Tai offered “Pooja” to lord Krishna and performed, the “Aarti”. Pooja didi

narrated the story of the birth of lord Krishna.

Kids of STD 1 performed a dance on the very famous song “Choti-Choti Gayiaan ,Chot-Chote

Gwal” , and this song was sung by the children of STD 2. It was very well performed. After all

these activities, all the kids went for Bal Gopal darshan and they got chance to swing the Palna. This

was followed by Bhog distribution at lunch.

    Dahi Handi

For Dahi Handi, kids of Std 5th to 8th decorated the Handi. Dahi Handi was performed in three rounds.

First round was performed by the Pre-Primary Kids, the second round was performed by Std 1 to Std

4 and the third round was performed by Std 5 to 8 . For all rounds Kaiz bhaiya helped to hang these

    handis at different heights.

Our kids made human pyramids to reach the handi. After breaking the handi kids got a surprise treat

of chocolates filled in the handi.

After performing all the celebrations kids and teachers were very happy. To make this event a

success everybody put in a lot of efforts. All the parents were much appreciated for the efforts taken

    to send the Bhog.

The Red Dragon Gurgles of laughter

    Restlessness of feet

“There’s a monster on the loose”,

Says a tiny voice filled with glee!

    It's a red dragon

    With a long prickly snout.

    A fire-breathing dragon

    The teachers better watch out!

The dragon is on the lookout for loud voices

For those adults who take away our choices

The box you try to fit us in

For a nest she grabs, to lay eggs within

The fire-spitting dragon, cares none for your jest

The jokes you crack, about performances on tests

The dragon yearns for you to protect us

To nurture us and to guide us

Try your best to appease her, you

    must!

Build a solid foundation of trust

Patience and a belief in abilities

Will create for us untold opportunities!

Togetherness can help tame this wild

    beast

If not, the dragon, is in for a feast!

  • A child was once given a diamond,

To reckon and to play with,

    He bounced it, flounced it,

And held it to the sky,

The pretty colors filled his room,

    And disappeared,

In the twinkling of an eye!

Next morn again he played with it,

Hung it for all to see,

On a piece of string around his neck,

Like a star in the sea!

Then he laid it on his bed,

And off to play went he,

And the diamond lay there still,

    With no value anymore,

    For the child was careless,

    And the child was lazy,

And the child played on and on

Forgetting that on his bed lay,

A jewel which most couldn’t have worn !

    And it lay there,

    Until -

    It was picked and taken

    Never to return.

The child came to his bed at night,

And found not where he left,

    The diamond..

Oh! He wept and cried for many a day,

And many a prayer said he,

But the jewel was gone and in its place,

    Was left

    Just

    A memory!!

    RAKSHA BANDHAN IN SCHOOL

This year’s Raksha Bandhan was one of the best ones I’ve had in Aman Setu.

The day started with Ruchi Di telling us to say sorry and become friends with anyone we

may have troubled or fought with. This made us make peace with our grudges and

enlightened the spirit of that day. Then Pooja Di told us a story about the origin of Raksha

Bandhan and the importance of tying Rakhi.

After breakfast, we went back to our usual school time-table. During the day, our teachers

gave us information regarding the celebration of Raksha Bandhan. All classes took turns

and tied Rakhis to their favourite tree in the school. We also pledged to protect our trees.

It was amazing to see that, at the end, no tree was without a Rakhi.

At Home Time, after all classes had tied their Rakhis, I was looking at all the trees and

thinking “How beautiful my school trees look!” I don’t know if anyone else felt so, but I

felt that the trees were also very happy and smiling at us. The leaves were swaying

    cheerfully and bidding us Goodbye!

I always look forward to celebrating Raksha Bandhan in school.

    A School with a difference

Aman Setu is the most amazing and child friendly school that we have known till date.

Going to our school is like going on a picnic. Teachers are very kind and friendly. They are

    like second mothers to children.

When we enter the school the fresh fragrance of nature fills our hearts with energy and

happiness. We have pets in our school and we sing the birthday song for them, just as it’s

sung for everyone else in the school. Everyone is special in our school.

Our teachers teach us from their hearts and not only from the books. Studies are not a burden

but so much fun. Every festival is celebrated equally whether it’s a muslim or a hindu

occasion. The cutest thing we have is “Chintu the Bus”. The soil is very fertile in our school,

    everything grows well.

Everyone is very down to earth and humble and above all it’s not all about scores but all

round personality development. We just love our school!!!

    Raksha Bandhan

  • Founder’s day- Memories of Adi (Interviews taken by the seventh graders and eighth graders)

If you want to be part of something big,

something meaningful you have to put in

that extra effort because it has meaning to

you and yout think it is worth doing. If you

really want to do it, any challenges it gives

you, you should face it and give it your best.

Adi said, “Every child is an

    expression of mystical energy, that

we are all a part of. Every single

one: fair, thin, fat, clever, learning

disabled, rich, poor, polite is God

    himself and has infinite potential.

The staff learnt how to make food and

    serve, clean classrooms. Also more

    importantly, whenever there was any

mistake made ,she always corrected in

a polite manner. Also she encouraged

    and motivated everyone with sweet

    and warm talks.

Adi was one of the most

    committed, in the world of

    education. Although highly

    talented and experienced

    she remained kind and

    polite.

Adi had great love for children. She did great work for children and everyone

around her. I worked with her for 27 year. The best gift she gave me was an

appreciation card which I got in the assembly. The best thing about Adi was

that she accepted everyone as they were. She always looked for good

qualities in people and never humiliated anyone. She taught me how to help

others, whenever I made any mistake she heard me out and then tried to make

something out of that. She never shouted. Her favourite subject was history.

She had a big heart, was forgiving and always wanted to keep learning.

Every moment she was in the present and would immediately change her

work and schedule according to what had happened.

    Anjali Tai.

    Positive,

    Dynamic

Sonali tai began her first job

with Adi in 1998 as a Hindi

teacher in RBA. She helped Adi

    work in various exhibitions,

    curriculum development,

    concepts and workshops. Adi

    was very precise and detailed.

She only took detailed work and

    loved a creative mind. She

    never pressurized anyone. She

    was most interested in cooking,

    literature and history as a

    subject. She took notice of

    every minor and major mistake.

    Small things touched her heart.

The Art of Cartography We all knew that a map tells us about the places and locations but we were not aware that there are several

types of maps, and definitely clueless that how interesting and hard it could be to actually make a map!!

After reading the chapter, we got to know about many types of maps.

Sukhjeet Didi gave us the project to create map of our school. We were divided into two groups and we, as a

group, had to draw the map, from “the Jungle Gym” to “The Rocket Room”. While taking a round of the

school, we made rough drafts of the places. With the help of our rough drafts, we drew the map on a chart

paper. We took around 4-5 periods to chart the map.

After drawing, we coloured it and pasted ice cream sticks to show the area with tiles. We outlined it and

finally labelled it. While making the map we learned that maps couldn’t be made alone. It takes a lot of

efforts. It was hard to draw the places, on the basis of their exact locations, while keeping the right spaces

between them. The detailing was hard, especially the Jungle Gym. It took a great deal of teamwork to make

    the map.

We really enjoyed doing this activity.
