Developing Expression and Control Through Accenting Notes

Moving across the chord tones: 1st, 3rd, 5th

A phrase from Billy In the Low Ground

    1. Play these as written, two of each note, alternating DOWN then UP. Focus on equal volume and tone

    2. Next do the same but accent the down strokes and quiet the up strokes 3. Then, do it but quiet the down strokes and accent the UP strokes 4. Next stage: play 4 of each note, accent only the 1st note in each group of 4 5. Last, play 3 of each note. Accent only the 1st note and use a Down Up Down pattern for each

group of 3 notes. Meaning that the 1st note in each group with start with a down stroke.
