TRANSCRIPT
Everybody has been staying at home for months and definitely needs space, fresh air, sun but
also and above all a safe place.
The safest beaches in Europe (Covid-19) were selected on basis of various criteria such as a
low number of people infected by the coronavirus (from 10 to 600 times fewer cases of
Covid-19), the size of the beaches and the number of square metres available for each
person on the beach.
These destinations have also been selected on the basis of the large offer of private villas,
tourist apartments, small or medium-sized hotels with specific health charter and
commitments to travellers, such as cleaning and room disinfection service after each stay,
respect for social distancing.
These destinations are also located near hospitals that have never been overcrowded
during the crisis with an average of hospital beds per inhabitant above the European
average.
From Greek beaches to beaches in Portugal, or even Lithuania and Poland, discover the
longest and safest beaches for a relaxing holiday in Europe. These beaches, some of which
are over 100km long, are perfect for safe holidays: even at the peak of the season, keeping
your distance will not be a problem.

1. PREVEZA – GREECE
That settles it! Greece will be your next destination this summer. It is one of the
European countries least affected by Coronavirus (up to 50 times less affected than
any other European country). Greece has already taken many safety and health
measures to ensure travellers a safe holiday. For example, air conditioner filters are
changed after each stay and a distance of 4 metres is compulsory between each
beach umbrella.
Monolithi beach, the main beach of Preveza, is 22Km long (13 miles) and up to 80
metres wide. This beach is the longest one in Europe; with its hundreds of thousands
of square metres (+ 1,500,000m²) you won’t have to struggle to get a nice spot , fix
your beach umbrella and spend relaxing days in the sun; Monolithi beach is not the
only one in Preveza , of course, there are many others too.
Preveza is definitely the safest beach destination in Europe this summer.
Preveza is full of charm, preserved from big resorts. Tourist accommodation is on a human scale (villas,
apartments, family hotels). Even in high season and even if all the accommodation was 100% full, you would
still have tens of square metres just for you on one of the beautiful Preveza beaches.
Numerous safety and health measures in accommodation, shops and restaurants have already been
taken in Preveza by the autorities. Preveza is probably the only sun destination in Europe with extremely
long beaches, close to three hospitals and 10 minutes from the airport. Live your holiday in Preveza
safe and free.
Known for its excellent value for money, Preveza is the anti St Tropez: hotel, restaurants and cafés charges
are affordable and this summer the deckchairs are even free (and cleaned between each traveller). Greece
has also cut taxes on flights, trains, buses and many services to attract travellers.
How to get there: Book your flights to Aktion Airport (10 min by car/Taxi).
✔ Reopening to travellers: Hotels and shops of Preveza are happy to welcome you from July 1st. No
quarantine requested.
2. COMPORTA – ALENTEJO – PORTUGAL
Sometimes one can stay for hours on this beach and not come across anyone. Until recently, Madonna
used to ride her horse on this beach on Sunday mornings and enjoy the tranquility of this 20km long beach
(12 miles). She should not have left Comporta because the Alentejo is one of the regions least affected by
Coronavirus in Europe (up to 600 times less cases of Coronavirus in the Alentejo than in any other region
of Europe).
Portugal has hundreds of kilometres of magnificent beaches along its coastline, perfect for a family holiday.
Comporta beach is just a few kilometres from Lisbon, one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe.
Comporta is never overcrowded even in July or August and it offers tourist apartments, private villas, and
small sized hotels. There’s always plenty of space for a beach umbrella and a beach towel.
Good to know: Portugal has implemented “Safe and Clean” labels to guarantee accommodation that meets
all health measures.
How to get there: Book your flights to Lisbon (1h by car).
✔ Reopening to travellers: Most of the hotels will already be open on June 15, all of them will be open on
July 1. No quarantine requested.
3. HEL PENINSULA – POLAND
Poland is one of the European countries least affected by Coronavirus, along with Portugal and Greece.
There are up to 20 times less cases there than in the most affected countries of Western Europe. Here
hospitals have never been overloaded and Poland has more hospital beds per resident than many
European countries as the Netherlands or Switzerland.
That said, let's talk about your holiday now. After a flight to Gdansk, one of the most beautiful cities in
Europe, take your rental car to "Hel Peninsula", which despite its name is a paradise on earth.
This huge strip of sand (35 km long, 30 metres up to 3 km wide), offers travellers millions of square metres.
If you are either idle or active, Hel is made for you. We recommend you rent a bike to discover all the beauty
of this unique peninsula in Europe. If you have time and for the more athletic ones we recommend a bike
trip on the Polish coast. Rent a bike in Świnoujście and join Hel Peninsula (20 hours by bike, 4 to 5 days
with stops along the coast).
Imagine your boss’s reaction after he asks you : "where are you going on holiday this summer?" "I'm going
to Hel!".
How to get there: Book your flights to Gdansk (1h15 by car), your accommodation in Gdansk or Hel.
✔ Reopening to travellers: The borders will be open to travellers from June 13 without quarantine.
4. PORTO SANTO – MADEIRA ISLANDS - PORTUGAL
Portugal is considered to be one of the safest destinations this summer: some regions as The Azores, The
Alentejo and The Algarve are relatively spared compared to the rest of Europe. Madeira is even the least
affected region of Portugal.
After months of confinement it is a perfect destination to relax in nature. Madeira is an archipelago made
up of several islands. There is Madeira, the main island but also other small islands like Porto Santo. (5,500
inhabitants).
The golden sandy beaches of Porto Santo are world famous. In addition to being perfect for farniente, they
are famous for the therapeutic virtues of its sand. This is called "Psammotherapy" (hot sands). Porto Santo
Spa alternates seawater treatments and warm sand treatments; these are perfect for what you need most
now.
How to get there: Book your flights to Funchal (Madeira). You can reach the island by ferry (1 hour crossing
from Funchal). There is also an international airport in Porto Santo with direct flights.
✔ Reopening to travellers: Madeira should be ready to welcome travellers from July 1st.
5. HALIKOUNAS BEACH – CORFU – GREECE
Blessed by gods, Corfu is one of the greenest Greek islands, with exceptional flora and fauna. Do you know
that Greece has been up to 50 times less affected by Coronavirus than any other destination in Europe?
Greece is often mentioned as one of the safest destinations in Europe for Coronavirus. Some specific
measures have been taken such as social distancing on beaches, room disinfection, air conditioner
replacement filters in rooms after each stay, temperature measurement on arrival at the airport,
availability of masks and numerous hospital beds (Greece has more hospital rooms per capita than Ireland
or the United Kingdom).
Just 40 minutes by car from Corfu Airport discover one of the most amazing and largest beaches on this
dream island. Treat yourself to a paragliding ride and fly over this narrow and long golden sandy beach.
✔ Reopening to travellers: International flights restart on July 1 (no quarantine requested).
6. RIVIERA BAY BEACH – MALTA
There have been up to 55 times fewer cases of Coronavirus in Malta than in the most affected European
countries. Did you know that Malta has more hospital beds per resident than Finland, Ireland or the United
Kingdom? As the epidemic has been very limited in Malta, hospitals have never been overcrowded and
will be able to accommodate travellers if necessary.
Knowing this what about diving into the turquoise water of the Mediterranean and discovering the
treasures and riches of one of the most beautiful destinations in Europe? Lay your beach towel on Riviera
bay beach or on one of the many other beaches in Malta. If you really want to distance yourself from the
crowd this summer you can also book your stay in Gozo: the island is smaller than the main island and
ideal for nature lovers, hikers or scuba divers.
✔ Reopening to travellers: If the hotels reopen on June 1st, the tourist season should restart on July 1st.
7. MEIA PRAIA – LAGOS – ALGARVE – PORTUGAL
The Algarve is one of the regions least affected by Coronavirus in Europe and Lagos is one of the least
affected town in the Algarve. With up to 40 times fewer cases than in the most affected European regions,
the Algarve is a favourite destination for travellers looking for safe destinations this summer.
Lagos has a very nice historic centre with traditional shops, trendy bars and cafes, a fruit and fish market
and some magnificient beaches. The largest beach in Lagos is "Meia Praia". Although "Meia" means
"Medium" in Portuguese, "Meia Praia" is the largest beach in Lagos.
Nearly 5km of golden sand await you on this very long beach. Even in high season you won’t have to «
struggle » to find some square metres of fine golden sand around you and safety distances will be
respected. If you are lucky, and if the situation allows it, you may also enjoy some other beautiful (but
smaller) beaches of Lagos.
How to get there: Book your flights to Faro (1 hour by car).
✔ Reopening to travellers: Portugal is ready and the full tourist season will start on July 1st (no quarantine
requested).

Jurmala is a destination labeled "EDEN". This recognition is awarded by the European Commission to
reward the best sustainable tourism destinations in Europe. The EDEN network now includes more than
90 sustainable tourism destinations that you can find here.
33km (20 miles) of fine, pure sand await you in one of the best sustainable wellness destinations in Europe.
Whether you stay in one of the many art nouveau wooden villas or book your accommodation in a hotel
with spa, treatments, massages, you will love your stay in Jurmala.
In addition to sea air (100 times less loaded with germs than in any city centre), a sweet fragrance of pines
floats in the air of Jurmala. The combination of the two fragrances is very good for people especially for
those with respiratory problems.
Do you need a final argument to pack your bags? Latvia has been 60 times less affected by Coronavirus
than the most affected European countries and ranks among the European countries with the most
available hospital beds per capita.
How to get there: Book your flights to Riga (40 min by car, 50 min by train).
✔ Reopening to travellers: From July 1, most hotels and restaurants will be open. Even the massage
rooms, saunas will be open and events (concerts, etc.) with less than 500 people.
9. NIDA BEACH – NIDA – LITHUANIA
Fancy a relaxing time in the middle of nature in a unique place in Europe? Disconnect from social networks,
continuous news channels and reconnect with nature.
Nida is located 1 hour by car from Klaipéda (4 hours from the capital Vilnius). More than 100km of fine
sand await you in this paradisiac place, almost cut from the rest of the world.
The sea, the dunes, the forest and you, here is your program for your next holiday. Lithuanian and German
travellers really appreciate this seaside resort located on the Isthmus of Curlandia. Wondering what an
isthmus is? It is a huge strip of land between two seas or two gulfs and joining two lands (thank you
Wikipedia). The Isthmus of Curlandia is over 100km long! It is the perfect place for a holiday away from the
crowds. Do not miss to climb up to the dune of Parnidis, the second highest dune in Europe (second after
the dune of Pyla located in Aquitaine / France).
In summer, the smell of pines mixes with the sweet iodized scent of the sea. Come and enjoy this pure air
this summer. You can rent bikes on site: there’s a large cycle path running almost all along the isthmus.
You can also do water sports (kitsurfing, windsurfing, ...).
Good to know: With 40 times fewer cases of Coronavirus than the most affected European countries,
Lithuania is a country to discover during your next holiday. In the high average of the number of hospital
beds per inhabitant (only Germany and Austria do better in Europe), Lithuanian hospitals have never been
overwhelmed during this health crisis and can accommodate, if necessary, travellers with health problems.
How to get there: Book your flights to Palanga (1h30 by car) or Vilnius (4h by car).
✔ Reopening to travellers: The tourist season should restart on July 1st.

If Germany was 10 times less affected by the Coronavirus than some European countries The Land of
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was particularly preserved with 80 times less cases of Coronavirus than
in the countries most affected.
Rügen Island is a perfect destination for nature lovers. Binz is one of the best known resorts on this island

"European Best Destinations contest is an incredible way to boost the tourist inflow in cities.

are increasing, especially this year European travellers (British, Spanish, German, Swiss, Belgian,

contributed to this result, press fallouts after winning this title have been global and massive“.
