India is a spiritual land and great saints and realizedls are born in this country. While every part of India is

que for its spiritual splendor, South India probably has anificant special place for several reasons. It has

otees of Shiva who follow Advaita and proponents ofaita and Vishistadvaita also in south India. South Indiaduced the founders of these three systems ofosophy or schools of thought - Sankara, Ramanuja anddhwa. We may add that worship of Krishna was also

ated by Vallabhacharya of South India.

The history of various Saivite saints is described inia Puranam while the lives and works of Vaishnavite

nts are embodied in Divya Prabandham. The saints ofshnavite group are called Alwars. The system ofshnava philosophy had no distinction of sex and caste.dal is greatest devotee of Narayana and sang about here and marriage to the Lord. Bhakthi and prapatti selfrender, was her life breath. Similarly, her fatheriaalwar, Satagopa, and others are beacons of light thatk devotees of Narayana to saloka, sameepya, andujya- to his abode, and to the merger with Him. Among the Alwars, Satagopa is embodiment ofotion to his guru. He considered his guru as God and

metimes considered him as greater than god. Madhurai spent all his time with his guru, and recorded the mysticeriences in melodious poetry. While Rama andshmana were in the woods as per the command of theirer, Shatrugna the youngest brother of Rama wasoted to Bharata and through him worshipped Rama.

milarly, Madhura kavi worshipped his guru surrenderingego at the feet of his guru and through the guru heized God. He had postulated the efficacy and potency ofarya Bhakthi by speaking the glory and greatness ofu and how the acharya, the guru, can redeem the soul of

devotee from samsara. He wrote eleven versescribing the grace and compassion of his guru and how

ough his blessings he obtained the grace of lordrayana. He described in these poems how gururected him from errors and molded him into a true bhaktading to liberation.

Jeeva delivers yet another commercial potboiler without bothering to worry aboutsse. Debutant director Thiraivannan seems to be content with a cliched story and,ce, takes no strain to tell us anything new or novel. The story is all about a youth coming

he city, falling in love and confronting the baddie. The hero lands up in Chennai (like many other heroes have done in the past) and takes

he job of an assistant to Vadivelu, who runs a shop in the Burma Bazaar locality.Enters Madhi (Poonam Bajwa), who accidentally saves Jeeva from a 'road accident'

steals his heart instantly. Our hero keeps following Poonam wherever she goes, butgirl tries hard to avoid him. She is not even ready to accept the customary thanks foring his life. The reason behind her mysterious silence is a local don Sivamani (J.D.

Chakravarthy), who lovesher madly. He threatens thathe would kill her parents ifshe turns down his love. Hehad killed two boys who hadproposed to Madhi.Jeeva plans to handle thesituation in a novel (!) way.He joins Sivamani's gang, wins his trust and then triesto tactically dismantle himfrom his position. Thedirector wants us to believethat he plays the gamesmartly but the fact is that the

whole drama looks immatureand idiotic.Expectedly, once Jeeva'shide-and-seek game comesout in the open, the baddietries to kill him but gets killedin the hands of our powerfulsuper hero. All is well thatends well, isn't it?The initial scenes dealingwith Jeeva moving out of hishouse are entertaining. Soare the scenes involvingVadivelu in the first half. Thefilm becomes boring in thesecond half. But for Vadiveluthe movie would have been areal punishment for theviewers.

We have seen many films that show the hero befriending the villain to checkmate him.reover, the way our hero outsmarts the villain at every step hasn't been conceived andcuted well. The villain, touted to be a terror in the area, looks like a laughing stock in some scenes.

make things worse, the film drags in the second half and even a spirited Vadivelu cannote it.Jeeva, who has impressed as an actor in movies like "E" and "Kattradhu Thamizh,"a natural charm and flair but he needs to be more careful in choosing the scripts. J.D.

akravarthy as the don has done what's expected of him. After "Thenavattu", this would be the second time Poonam gets to pair up oppositeva. She does have a beautiful face but her appeal gets diluted as she is seen in a staterief most of the time.Nisha Kothari returns to Tamil cinema in a bold and new avatar in an item song, which

ood.Thiraivannan proves that he could make a commercial entertainer which doesn't

her to test anybody's brain. It'd help him if he creates meaningful stories and betternes.Music director D.Imman has given a couple of peppy numbers with "Vaada Vaada,"

turing Nisha, standing out. The song, shot in and around Agra in the backdrop of the Tajhal, is beautiful.

'Kacheri Aarambam' is for the die hard fans of masala flicks.Film: "Kacheri Aarambam"; Cast: Jeeva, Poonam Bajwa, J.D. Chakravarthy, Vadivelu,

ha Kothari; Director: Thiraivannan; Music Director: D. Imman; Score: 40/100
