Alone and Abandoned!

On a deserted island……..

Page 3: Alone and abandoned!

Day One…………• You awake to find

yourself left on an unknown island.

• Try to recall how you arrived there but your memory is blurry…

• Describe your immediate surroundings, describe what you see

• What is the weather like?

• How do you feel?

I opened my eyes and saw many fallen coconut trees. I screamed, “Arghhhhh”. But all I heard was the sea crashing against the rocks, like two trucks colliding. The last thing I remember I was scubadiving under some caves but suddenly my tank got clogged with the swishy, swoshy sea.In front of me was golden sand and silver clouds.I looked behind me and I saw sparkling waterfalls and forest flowers that were blue, yellow, pink, purple and white.

I could hear...

The sky was…

I started to feel….because…

Doghead Island• I tried to explore the whole Island. I

encountered many strange things, including a massive lump of treacherous quicksand positioned in the middle of the forest. Luckily, I was able to find a lagoon on the West side of the island that was full of fish. As I traveled further up the Island, I heard a trickling sound- FRESH WATER. I ran towards the sound and saw a gleaming, blue river. Jackpot!- I thought to myself. I followed the river until I came to a waterfall flowing down an enormous mountain. I decided to climb to the top and ride the waterfall like a hydroslide. But something caught my eye as I was teetering on the top. Clouds of smoke in the distance came spurting out the top of a large mountain, like steam escaping a kettle. Oh no, a volcano- I thought to myself.

Day Three…..• A ship passes you on the north coast.

Draw the ship that you see.. Is it a sailing boat, a freight ship, a dinghy???

Page 10: Alone and abandoned!

Day three• : - how did you feel when you first saw the

ship? How did you try and contact them? How did you feel when your attempt failed and the ship sailed away?

Day three…• I woke up on the third day and I could hear loud booming

music from the North. I ran up the coast and scrambled up one of the Island’s treacheurous mountains. From the top I could see a spot of gleaming light in the water- a ship, a ship- I was saved. I slid back down the mountain, about as gracefully as an elephant dancing. I continued running North to where I had seen the ship and the music was getting louder. As I reached the top of the Island I could see that it was a sailing ship. I squinted really hard and made out a group of people on the deck of the boat. “Help!”, I screamed at the top of my lungs. They didn’t even look back. The music had drowned out the sound of my voice.

• I sat down, defeated. I put my hands in my hair and weaped. Was that my only hope? Would I ever get out this place? I felt as dark as the night sky.

Page 12: Alone and abandoned!

Day three• I woke up on the third day and… continued to explore the

Island. I climbed up the jagged cliff face at the North of the Island and I couldn’t believe my eyes. A massive freight ship was cruising by the Island. This was it, halieluyah- I was saved. But then I started to panic, sweat started dripping down my face. I needed to create a signal to get their attention. What would they see though? Ahhhh huh- I thought to myself. Two sticks, some of that light grass stuff and alotta muscle, luckily I had more muscles than the Incredible Hulk! I was going to make a massive smoke signal- that would do the trick. I started to rub the sticks together, back and forth, back and forth. I gave it 110% but no smoke, not even a speck of smoke! As I looked up the ship was way, way in the distance. I had missed my golden opportunity. Guess I was stuck here.

Day Four……

• A storm is approaching. You must find shelter quickly.

• How do you feel about the bad weather?• Are you missing your family even more?• What could you do to protect yourself

against the elements? Where are you sheltering?

Page 14: Alone and abandoned!

Shelter

• Where do you find shelter?• Talk with the person next to

you the places you could find shelter on your Island. Could it be in the old abandoned hut, a cave, treehouse, do you make something out of sticks etc

• Describe what it looks like, feels like, smells like.

Page 15: Alone and abandoned!

Describing a storm

• Come up with some metaphors that describe a storm.

• The clouds teased the sun until he ran away.• The wind whispered threats in my ear.• Thunder yelled at the lightning and the lightning pulled

out its sword, ready for battle.

Page 16: Alone and abandoned!

SHELTER• The sky broke in like a robber on day 4, stealing all the light and

kidnapping the sun. The clouds moved in like massive grey security guards at a jewelry store, they hovered over me, making sure they could see me at all times. I knew what this ment, any minute the sky would start pelting at me. So I started to run, I remembered that I had seen a cave near the east side of the island- that was my only hope of keeping dry. I darted and dived through the lush green forest, being careful not to run into poisin ivy. I reached the cliff face just as the sky started to cry. There it was, right on the edge, an opening. I crawled in just as the sky yelled out in rage, I hated the sound of that thunder. As I sat curled up in the dark, musky cave, my mind started to wonder- what was my family doing? Did they realise I was missing? Did they even care? Jealousy took over me at the thought of them lounging around the t.v, drinking milo and having a good old time. I prayed that atleast one of them would realise I was missing.

Page 20: Alone and abandoned!

Day 5• I decided to leave my shelter and continue

exploring the island until I came across…. FOOTPRINTS. They looked like the size of human footprints but they sunk into the ground quite deep. I decided to follow the footprints incase there was somebody else on the island, and if there was, they could help me. The footsteps led me down the sand of the coast and into the opening of the forest. I hesitated as I heard a massive roar coming from the distance. “Don’t be a wimp”, I said out loud. As I built up my courage and ventured into the forest I could smell beautiful tropical flowers and hear the songs of exotic parrots. Why hadn’t I been here earlier? BANG! In the flash of a second I had been hit in the head with a giant banana. As I gathered myself I looked up and met the black eyes of a giant, brown gorilla. My knees trembled like a rattlesnake and cold sweat poured down my back. I started to think- why did I never watch Animal Planet? Too late now, I ran for it. I’m pretty sure I ran faster than Usaine Bolt. I scrambled back up the coast and into the arms of my beloved cave.

Page 21: Alone and abandoned!

Day Six……

• You have run out of food supplies. You will need to search for food. Describe what you find.

• What does it taste like?• Do you attempt to cook anything?• What will you cook it in?

Page 22: Alone and abandoned!

Day 6- what to eat…• Griiiilllummble-my stomach grumbled as I realised I had no food left.

The midnight snack I had the night before must’ve done it. The only option I had was leaving my beloved cave and searching for food. Off I went, my feet dragging along the ground with exhaustion. I came to the river that split the Island in two. I could run and jump and try and make it across, swing over on a vine or try and build a raft. I decided to go with the first option. I took four giant steps backward and ran like the wind, only my foot slipped on the bank of the river and I face planted into the water. I panicked, splashing about the water like a manic salmon. As I slowly clamed down I realised the water was only knee deep. I was glad at that moment I was alone- I was so embarrassed. I continued on, searching like crazy for anything edible. I came across some pee-sized l, brown balls. As I lifted them up to my mouth a shot of musky, burnt hair hit my nose. I knew this wasn’t lunch. As I continued on I walked past a brightly speckled bush. I investigated further and discovered they were berries. I placed the red berry in my hand and gave it a wiff, just to be sure. The flavour of rasberry licorice tickeled my taste buds as I muched down on berry after berry.

Day Seven…..

At last you are rescued! How do you feel when you see the ship, plane, raft…….?

How do you feel about leaving the island and meeting your family again?

Are you sorry to go?

How will this experience affect you in the future?

Page 24: Alone and abandoned!

Day Seven

End your story with one thing this experience has taught you…

Although I was happy to leave the Island it had taught me a lot and made me realise the importance of watching Animal Planet.

Although I was happy to leave the Island it had taught me a lot and made me realise the importance of watching Bear Grylls.

One thing the Island taught me was to never mess with an angry gorilla.

One thing the Island taught me was to always give your food the sniff test.
