1- History of ALModon

AlModon Engineering Consultancy Office was established in Riyadh 2006. A team of special technical experts, collaborating with International experts specializing in engineering and universal access, set up the consultancy. It seeks to provide services such that the future projects in Arab World are more dynamic, humanitarian, and in line with engineering standards and universal access. AlModon seeks to work continuously to preserve the natural and urban environment through a multi-engineering consulting system that entails every aspect of the process — starting with designing, urban planning, architecture, project management, supervision of implementation, various engineering and environmental consultancy The office, with all its elements, began focusing on urban planning and architecture concepts to achieve universal access that gave it a new urban, humanitarian face that was out of the ordinary while creating architecture with care. This new drive characterized a model for the office to provide to all engineering disciplines. The office seeks, with its team, to assist its clients to meet the regional, urban challenges while provide engineering expertise for urban projects in the Arab region. AlModon represent GAATES organization in the Arab Gulf by the ex-presidents Arch.Mukhtar AlShaibani.

3- Universal Access

AlModon Office is specialized in comprehensive access in the Arab world. It provides services to both the public and private sectors by designing ( from concept to completion) the urban environment that meets the needs of all groups of society without discrimination. Through its specialized technical staff, and in cooperation with international experts who are specialized in universal access, AlModon seeks to provide these services such that future projects in the Arab world are more dynamic and humanitarian, in line with Universal Access standards. AlModon limits its interest in achieving Universal Access, which gives a new urban harmony out of the ordinary for a humane and streamlined architecture.

AlModon trains and rehabilitates engineers, technicians and those who are interested in the field of Universal Access within a scientific and technical perspective such that the trained personnel are ready to meet the requirements and challenges of work. The training is done through the latest courses and workshops where distinguished experts, in terms of scientific and practical qualification, are called it to deliver their expertise.

6.1.1 Alkhozama Project in Riyadh AlModon participated in the project called Alkhozama city in 2016 that is located in Northeast of Riyadh with 60,000000 m^2. AlModon staff collaborated with a wonderful project urban designer to guarantee the full accessibility standards during the implementation stage. The project mainly was developed between the consultancy and the client after the site visit plus site analysis for the whole area. We believe there is an extremely major similarity between the previous project and AlQiddia.


6.1.2 Provide special consultancy services for Universal Access to King Abdulaziz Road in Makkah:

This mega project in Makkah was 7km distance within 200m width, and in the middle of it was a boulevard of 30m. AlModon was appointed as an access consultant.


6.1.3 Al Hayaah City for human services in Madinah This is a mini city with an area of 2,000,000m that serves all people with different types of disabilities. This city will consist of four main parts: Service complex for the blind, service complex for autism and disability of mind, service complex for motor disability and audio, and specialized medical hospital. In addition, there will be some investment area plus various services.

Accessibility Consultant

Bob has over 25 years of experience practicing and teaching architecture with a specialization and interest in the fields of barrier-free design and universal design. He is president of

DESIGNABLE ENVIRONMENTS - a company that specializes in providing accessibility consultation services to public and private sector clients. Bob is a founding member of the Global Alliance on Accessible Technologies and Environments (GAATES) and currently

serves as a member of the GAATES Board

Eoin O’Herlihy

(Ireland) Accessibility Consultant

Eoin O’Herlihy is a first class graduate in Materials and Engineering Technology, and

completed an Engineering Research Master’s Degree in March 2003. He was employed as a Teaching Assistant in the University of Limerick and lectured part-time in Limerick Institute

of Technology and Cork Institute of Technology He became a Public Sector Built Environment Specialist for the National Disability Authority (NDA) in 2003, Eoin was instrumental in the design and implementation of NDA’s first ever

national award scheme, the Excellence through Accessibility award. He established O’Herlihy Access Consultancy in August 2007. OHAC is one of the leading specialists in

accessibility training and consultancy management in Ireland who aim to make services and building accessible for everybody

With over 12 years’ experience working in accessibility, Eoin has advised clients including the National Disability Authority, OPW Dublin Castle, RKD Architects, John Sisk and Sons, CBRE Ireland and the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. In

April 2010, Eoin was engaged by the European Commission to work on Mandate 420 (CEN/BTWG 207 Project Team member) for Mandate 420, which aimed to review the

current state of play of European accessibility requirements in public procurement for the built environment and to address the gaps in standards relating to accessibility in Europe. The second aim of this project was to identify how conformity assessment and accessibility can be

improved throughout Europe Eoin directly contributes to national policy and standards development and regularly guest lecture on the subjects of Universal Design, accessibility and Design for All. Eoin was a

Guest Lecturer on The University of Ulster Accessibility Auditing Programme and an active member of the course committee for a new Ma in Design for all in conjunction with Griffith

College. Eoin is currently a guest lecturer at University College Dublin and has written numerous articles and published papers on accessibility. The most recent example was an article for the Centre for Accessible Environments in the UK published in 2014 entitled “Thinking beyond disability access — Access audits, designing buildings and making

EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS DEVELOPED BY THE COMPANY RELATED TO EUROPEAN FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS DEALING WITH ACCESSIBILITY, MOBILITY AND DESIGN FOR ALL.

• 2001-2004 Partner in the ELDERATHOME research project, which sought to define criteria for housing for all ages. In conjunction with other partners, I had responsibility for the work package dedicated to designing the urban and architectural solutions proposed. VTT (Finland) was the coordinator.

• 2001-2004 Partner responsible for defining human interaction criteria in HOMEDOOR, a research project which created a Designed for All system to facilitate “last-mile” home delivery. Kone (Finland) was the coordinator.

• 2007-2009 Senior Advisor for the MEDIATE project (Methodology for Describing the Accessibility of Transport in Europe.)

• 2011-2013 Transport Needs for an Ageing Society (TRACY) research project to identify possibilities for improvement in the mobility policies of EU member States. My company held responsibility for research and interviews in five EU countries and Japan and participated in the development of the deliverables. Erfurt University of Applied Sciences (Germany) was the coordinator.

• 2012-2013 TENDER_ENTR12168_Economic impact and travel patterns of accessible tourism in Europe, undertaken with the University of Surrey, Neumann Consult, and GfK (main contractor). The study was to estimate the economic contribution and impact on employment of Tourism for All in Europe and to identify the key elements of the best practices. Neumann Consult and myself (on behalf of ProAsolutions) were the responsible for survey content, focus groups, case studies and final conclusions.

• 2012-2014 IDeALL project, which aims to compile and analyse user-involvement methodologies and processes employed by the design and Living Labs communities in the areas of ICT, urban design and health, and to facilitate their use by businesses and local government bodies. On behalf of the Design for All Foundation I have been involved in the coordination and the methodologies work package, as well as being leading the dissemination work package. Cité de design, Saint Etienne (France) is the coordinator.

RELATED TO URBAN PLANNING, MOBILITY AND ARCHITECTURE. Since 2000 ProAsolutions has developed:

• More than 300 accessibility and mobility plans for cities in Spain, Portugal, Luxemburg and France.

• Design of an accessible web geographic information system (GIS) used to plan and monitor urban accessibility.

• 2009 Design of emergency procedures and guidelines for underground railways.

• 2002-2015 Design and retrofit of historic and new buildings and accessibility assessment for the design and construction of new buildings.

• 2008-2009 International benchmarking study of accessibility, Design for All and service quality in rail networks in 23 countries for Renfe (Spanish Railways).

• 2000-2016 Design of streets and public spaces.

• 2016 Responsible management for built environment in “Development Universal Accessibility Strategy and Action Plan” (DUASAP) contracted by GAATES and delivered to Dubai Government.

RELATED TO STANDADISATION ACTIVITIES

• 1999 CEN/ISSS contract for Information and Communications Technologies Standards Board (ICTSB) Project Team on Design for All and Assistive Technologies in ICT. I was responsible for the definitions of Design for All and Assistive technology, as well as for the Public Access Terminals category.

• 2002 European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) contract to participate as an expert on the team working on Human Factors (HF); Guidelines on the multimodality of icons, symbols and pictograms DEG/HF-00027.

• 2002 CEN contract to participate as an expert in the development of Access for all to card reading devices CEN/TC 224/PT 06.

• 2003-2004 Project lead for the development of a Certification Scheme for Accessibility for the certification company Applus.

• 2010 Asociación Española de Normalización y Certificación (AENOR) (Spanish Association of Standardisation and Certification) contract on behalf of CEN to participate as an expert in Team A for the CEN/BTWG 207 for the first phase of the mandate M420 “Accessibility requirements for public procurement in the built environment”.

• Since 2006 member of AEN/CTN 170 at AENOR where I have been involved in the development of the standard UNE 170001-2 on accessibility management, several guidelines on accessibility and Design for All and, more recently, the revision of material and standards related to M 376 “Accessibility Requirements for Public Procurement of Products and Services in the ICT Domain”.

• Review of the reports produced by the expert team of M/473 - Standardization Mandate to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI to include ‘Design for all’ in relevant

standardization initiatives (2010) on behalf of AGE contributing with ideas for improvements.

• 2006 Expert in the project BUILD FOR ALL led by Info Handicap to develop guidelines for the application of the accessibility and Design for All clauses of EC Directives 17 and 18 on public procurement.

• 2009-2010 Contract with the Catalan Ministry of Social Affairs and Families to write and conduct a participatory process to develop an accessibility and Universal Design Decree.

• 2010-2012 One of four members of the International Expert Panel on Universal Design (IPEUD) to advice the Building and Construction Authority from the Singaporean Government about legislation development and Enforcement.

• 2007 Development of the HUMBLES method for user-centred business inspired by experience in product and service design but also by the Japanese approach to Universal Design.

• After testing the method in 10 companies whose business centred upon, among other things, emergency shelters, playgrounds, furniture, heating devices and house automation, the method was published.
