Welcome to the classThe Keys to Impactful and Sustainable Analytics

We are thrilled to share our passion for data and analytics during this six-session journey.

Success in analytics is not only about bytes and AI. It is deeply linked to the questions we ask, our creativity, our team and management support. Learning the foundational techniques is important, but embracing change, challenge, and the unknown is an imperative.

These sessions will take us through technology, data, people and processes. An exclusive roster of speakers including professionals , experts, and faculty will join us to present the most complete picture of what our field is today.

Our goal is to empower you with applicable solutions, clear knowledge foundations and a never-ending appetite to learn.

Bring your best curious, candid and collaborative self!

This Berkeley Extension certificate program was developed at Berkeley to promote business analytics for a diverse world, creating the foundations for relevant, unbiased, ethical, and humane data.

We are committed to supporting participants with little to no access to high-quality training by offering them up to 5 seats for every paying participants or even more with donations.

This 15-hour class (+10 hours of homework) covers the complete skill set required today from data analysts. It covers the roles and application of technology throughout the analytics supply chain and how data should be handled in each step, from data collection to preparation, organization, analysis, and reporting. It teaches how management and mindsets must evolve to make the best use of analytics. Finally, it presents how lean processes can ensure repeatability, scalability, and sustainability of newly set reporting procedures.

A bsolutely wonderful class with a passionate professor who demonstrates exemplary instruction and engagement with his students. Vasseur is truly remarkable and has an extraordinary manner of imparting his knowledge

to his students in a concise, unencumbered fashion. Prior to taking his class, I had only limited experience with “big data” and was honestly quite intimidated by it. However, Gauthier quelled my anxieties surrounding the topic and provided me with the confidence needed to become a “data CEO” in my profession. The combination of lecture materials, guest speaker presentations and hands-on case studies were crucial in breaking down the barriers to grasping and mastering the language of data and the management thereof. From learning how to manage everything from large-scale business problems to the most granular aspects of transactional systems, this course has made me feel substantially better-equipped to tackle and properly execute my own data projects. I would highly recommend that anyone take this course, especially those who believe data may not be their forté.

T hirty years ago I counted the days until I finished my Electrical Engineering degree at top Canadian university. I started at 1100 days. It was miserable. You have restored

my faith on what the educational experience could be. This was an amazing and transformative experience. Thank you for teaching and directing my skills for my next endeavors.”

I went into the class knowing nothing about data and come out with the tools that will allow me to analyze any given

chunk of data. Gauthier made the class very interesting by the way he taught it and of course, you cannot forget his magic tricks. I would recommend this class to anyone who would have the option of taking it.

T he class was very insightful on the world of data anal-ysis and on data as a whole. I absolutely enjoyed the learning experience. The way you tell stories is really

captivating too. Most importantly, you reminded me to ask myself the important questions: what am I working for? What is the value of my work? What is the purpose of what I’m doing? I will remember your teachings when the time comes. Thank you!

I never thought I would find data Management interesting at all. Well, it was before this class !

Great teacher and great course !

G authier is incredibly enthusiastic and is always engaged with the class. It is visible he is passionate about the subject and is dedicated to sharing his

knowledge with his students. The course is broken down into manageable lessons that combine practical data-knowledge such as experimentation with analytical tools and more theoretical-knowledge such as how and when to use big data. I am very pleased with this course overall and I plan to continue exploring the world of data.

I would certainly recommend the class to anyone interested in the subject, especially those without a background in computer science. Gautier took a

computer science subject and was able to turn it into approachable information for the average layman which is not an easy task! He did an excellent job of breaking down all of the important parts of BI and making them so understandable. I felt it was a very thorough breakdown of the subject matter.”

T his has been an outstanding course, preparation by Gauthier has been phenomenal, making use of highly current material, and really taking time each week to understand if everyone was put to pace,

and if they were not he made to sure to adjust or go over any areas that needed clarification. The use of guest speakers each week brings a real world dimension to the subject, which Gauthier already brings on his own. I have been enjoying this class immensely, leave the class enthused by the topic and possibilities for application in my job. Teaching style is brilliant and engages the whole class. I would highly recommend Gauthier’s class, and would certainly attend other classes which he takes.

I’m a working professional, SVP at a global company. I’ve “been there, done that” with a lot of IT and big data projects and I learned a great deal from this professor who did an

incredible job summarizing and teaching the realities of big data projects and what to do to succeed. He is energetic, passionate, funny with great stories to tell to make his points. That made the class - offered after a long day of work - wonderful. I highly recommend this professor who is one of the best professors I’ve ever had! This was way above/beyond expectations.

I don’t understand terminologies I can’t efficiently collaborate with IT I don’t know how to best use tools I don’t make the best of the solutions around me I feel powerless in influencing the technology roadmap

I’m drowning in spreadsheets I’m wasting a lot of time in data wrangling What I build is messy I’m hitting limitations in volumes and variety of data I can handle I spend more time on macro than on analysis

I feel lost with the digital world I’m not comfortable changing everything My boss doesn’t get it Will my colleagues engage with me? I’m not equipped to influence or drive change

What I build is not sustainable I see so many inefficiencies through-out my processes I need to spend more time on added-value tasks Each time someone leaves the team, we just recreate everything from scratch

Understand the role of each analytics components Leverage them to design lean and efficient processes Know what to ask IT in terms of technology support Be proactive during solution selections

Efficiently collect, prepare and model data Harness large volumes and variety of data Control data quality with techniques and processes Contribute to securing datasets sustainably and ethically

Think positively about change Identify, manage and pass change hurdles Advocate and influence transformation Adjust leadership and daily management

Cut down process times by factor of 2 to 20 Simplify protocols and automate them Standardize analytics to extend them to new fields Invest more time thinking and less time doing

I am Data Ready!I’m now empowered to capture new insights to best run my activities.I design lean and sustainable processes to spend less time crunching numbers and more time analyzing and innovating.I influence my colleagues upstream and downstream my analytics processes to ensure reliable and quality data flows.I can lead with vision and creativity, and support my organization in a fast moving digital world.
