Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed! Alleluia! We live in the Power and Promise of Christ’s Resurrection. When we look for that Power and Promise of Christ’s Resurrection, we begin to see it in our midst. I saw it in our midst during Lent in lively conversations in the Fellowship Hall over good food prepared for us. I heard it in the singing of Holden Evening Prayer and your attentiveness to the preached Word. I saw it in the deep thinking of many of the confirmation students who were asked in the sermon notes to apply the words of the sermon to their life or the community’s life. I saw us living in the Power and Promise of Christ’s Resurrection in the WELCA Lenten discussions. I saw it in our raising enough funds for Feed My Starving Children to feed 45 people for an entire year. I heard it in our glory, laud and honor of Passion Sunday. I heard it in the organ storm on Good Friday. I saw it on the faces of our first communicants and all of our members as we waived our Alleluias on Easter. The Power and Promise of Christ’s Resurrection is present here. I saw the Power and Promise of Christ’s Resurrection in the careful and good work of the Church Council. In their realizing how a designated fund for Pathways Bible Camp scholarships had grown to over $18,000, they developed a plan to utilize that money to help people re-engage with Pathways. I heard it in the careful and honest conversation over a potentially divisive issue over a request of a non-member inquiry about a same-sex wedding here at Our Savior’s.

I saw the Power and Promise of Christ’s Resurrection as we gathered around the font for Baptism as well as around the grave of one of our saints in light.

The Power and Promise of Christ’s Resurrection is here in our midst. I look forward to walking in it with you in this season of Easter.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!

God’s Blessings, Pastor Paul Trenne

Greetings to you all!

As I write this on a dreary spring day, I am reminded of my first Sunday back at Our Saviors during the flood of 1997. It was Mother’s Day, and a day much like this. I was a mother of three young children, with Sam having just been born 10 weeks prior. I wanted to be at our church so much, and so we bundled up the kids and trekked in from our rescue home in Fisher. Not having much for clothing and ill-prepared for our cold, wet, and snowy weather, we found ourselves in Our Saviors for worship. I felt like I was back home and found such comfort in the sea of familiar faces. With no electricity, church went on. Quilts made by our own members were brought out to wrap around and comfort all that had made their way to worship. With hymns, Pastor Dahl, warm quilts, fellow church members, a church shelter giving us respite from the work ahead, and God’s promise to be our refuge and strength, I knew that we were going to be OK.

Our council met on April 18, and I want to take this opportunity to highlight a few areas. At our annual meeting in January, we voted to extend a ¾ time position to Pastor Sonja. With her commitments to Calvary Lutheran, we are looking at an August start time so as to be ready for our busy fall schedule. We knew we were making an ambitious decision to ex-pand our ministry time, but it really was a call to faith and action. In reviewing our finances for the year to date, we are spending more that we are taking in. In fact, we are almost $11,500 in the red, and we have our slower summer months looming ahead. Our Office Manager, Betsey will be at worship services on Sunday, May 7, to assist interested members with “Simply Giving” and other online apps that will make giving so much easier for those of you, very much like me, that rarely write checks or have cash in my pocket for the offering plate. We now have options that will allow you to take out your smart phone and make the transfer in just minutes. We will now be able to say, “we will now pass the plate for offering, and please feel free to take out your phone to share your gifts as well!”

Pastor John Ritchie and his wife are the new residents/renters of our parsonage. Pastor Ritchie is the new pastor at Mendenhall. They are thrilled to be living in this beautiful home as they wait to sell their home in Indiana. Aaron Brekke will be our property manager during this time. A newly formed Parsonage Committee has been formed and will begin to meet to see what the future holds for our parsonage. If you are interested in being a part of this committee, please get in touch with me. We will be meeting in the next couple of weeks, and we will keep you posted on any new developments. We welcome your feedback dur-ing this process.

We also have a new Personnel Committee made up of Paul Haukebo, Jana Thompson, Beth Nelson, myself, and the pastors. This committee is a sub-committee of P & M and will work with all of our staff on updating job descriptions and making sure our church is meet-ing the needs of all of our staff, and our staff is feeling comfortable meeting the needs of Our Saviors.

There is an abundance of things going on at our church! I encourage you to find a way to get involved. “Many hands make light work” and, I can guarantee that you will find it re-warding.

May you feel God’s blessings happening every day, all the time.

Stephanie Larson Our Savior’s Council President
