Please limit your response to each of the following questions to about 75 words.

1. To an outsider, how would you describe the region you wish to represent -- geographically, economically, politically and socially?

Oregon’s 5th District is diverse in many respects. It is comprised of both rural agriculture and coastal regions as well as urban white collars industries. It is home to the great Willamette valley as well as the Oregon Coastal mountain range. Oregon’s 5th district is politically moderate which is to say there is a very even distribution of conservatives, moderates, and liberals with a very small Democratic registration advantage over Republicans.

2. What are the positives and negatives of this region (ward, district, county or state) that you wish to represent?

Its people are pragmatic and diverse. Given the diverse geographic makeup, Oregon’s 5th provides a taste of every other region in the state. The challenge in places like Clackamas county, where urban interests in the north run counter to the rural regions to the south, is providing policies that encompass these unique differences.

3. What specific skills and experiences do you bring to the position, especially ones that would help turn those negatives into positives?

I have 6 years of experience working in mental health. My profession requires that I can problem solve in high stress and interpersonal environments, reach consensus where multiple interests are in play, and plan ahead to foreseeable obstacles.

4. What separates you from your opponent(s)? Be specific.

My opponents have expressed, either recently or in the past, support for left-wing environmental views. In a region where natural resources are vital to its economy, the 5th district needs someone who can bring a balanced approach to sustainable stewardship; not a one sided view.

5. Please list five specific accomplishments that you have achieved in politics or civic affairs:

I was the field director for Ben Pollock who ran for Oregon’s 5th district in 2014. I recruited volunteers, organized fundraising events, acted as a candidate surrogate, did public outreach, and provided field data analysis.

6. How much will your Primary Election campaign cost? (be specific)

$25,000

7. Have you ever been convicted of a crime, been disciplined by a professional licensing board/organization or had an ethics violation filed against you? If so, please give the details.

No

8. Have you ever filed for bankruptcy, been delinquent on your taxes or other major accounts, or been sued personally or professionally? If so, please give the details.

No

9. What are the three most important issues you would address if elected, and how? (75 words for each issue)

A. I have been endorsed by the owners of Sweet Cakes Aaron and Melissa Klein. I will fight alongside the 164 co-sponsors in the House to pass the First Amendment Defense Act to safeguard religious liberties.

B. Iran must be kept from acquiring a nuclear weapon. I will support any and all efforts to impose harsh sanctions on the nation of Iran to keep this from happening

C. Our complex tax structure should be drastically simplified with a new flat tax for middle class American (those making $36,000 to $150,000) of no more than 15%.

10. What do you see as other important issues?

Veterans: Countless veterans have died waiting for care at the VA and yet little has been done to address the core issues. The VA must be overhauled. We should implement a VA voucher system that allows any veteran, living anywhere, with any medical need, to see the doctor of their choice at anytime. No more lines. No more assigned doctors. No more driving half a day to get treatment.

11. What online and/or print publications do you regularly read to keep abreast of issues in the district you seek to represent?

The Oregonian, KGW.com, Statesman Journal, Clackamas Review, and various local papers.

12. Any skeletons in your closet or other potentially embarrassing information that you should disclose before it comes up in the campaign? Anything (including health issues) that would affect your ability to serve your full term? Any changes in your life situation that are contemplated or expected before the election or before you would take office?

None

Thank you. Please return this questionnaire to the Editorial Board as an attached Word document to [email protected] by April 14, 2016.
